“I want you to see someone else,” he blurted out.

“You want me to find someone else to have sex with?” she asked. “Sure but why are you so worried about asking? It’s not like we haven’t done this before.”

“No, sorry, I’m not being clear,” he said, pinching the space between his eyes. “Yes I do want you to have sex with another person but… You see, when you were with Magnus, the thing that was driving me crazy was watching you act like his girlfriend. I felt like an interloper in my own marriage and it turned me on. It was like I was in some weird alternative world where I knew we were together but you had never married me. Just as much as the sex, it was seeing you be with him that drove my fantasies. Now I’ve had time to process it I realise what about it turned me on the most, it was you being in a relationship with him.”

Chloe was taken aback. It was a lot more complex than she had realised. “You want me to pretend to be in a relationship with someone but not Magnus?” she asked.

“Sort of. I would like you to start a relationship with someone but for real. If it was Magnus he would just be playing along. I want whoever it is not to be faking it.”

“So, you want me to get a boyfriend and what? Have a relationship with him?” Chloe asked incredulously.

Sean hung his head. “I know, it’s a bit fucked up. It’s just a fantasy. Forget I said anything.”

Chloe didn’t like to see him upset but it was a pretty **** request. She still wasn’t sure how she felt about it but she wanted to know more even if just to better understand what turners her husband on. “I’m curious about how it would work. Where would you be in all this?”

“In my head, I guess I thought I’d be your roommate. We could turn the small spare room into a bedroom and say that’s mine.”

Chloe thought. “But what about the other guy? I’m I just in a new relationship and that’s it? Where does it stop?”

“I thought we could put a time limit on it or if it wasn’t working out you could just end it any time.”

“Okay, so we would say, every month or so we discuss what we want to do? To keep going or not?”

“Exactly,” said Sean getting enthused by her interest. “Maybe we make it a bit longer so I don’t have as much control over it,” he added blushing again.

Chloe chuckled. “You fantasising about it getting out of hand eh? So what would be a good time? Two months, six, a year? Things could be getting pretty serious after a year.” She was teasing him but she was getting sucked into his little fantasy.

“Yeah,” he laughed nervously. “A year would be pushing it but maybe, three months?”

“Three months,” Chloe mused. “Then what? I break up with the guy?”

“Well, I was thinking that we would just talk about it and see where we went from there but in my fantasy, it ran long enough that I couldn’t cancel it before that time.”

“I get it. I get a boyfriend and if all goes well we date like a normal couple and you aren’t allowed to stop it until a deadline has passed.”

“Then we set a new deadline,” Sean added, getting carried away by the conversation.

“Ooh, so you wouldn’t be able to tell me to stop. It would be my choice to keep seeing him except for those deadlines. You really want to feel helpless don’t you?”

Sean laughed quietly. “That’s the idea, yeah.”

There was a moment of quiet and Chloe said, “Let’s try it.”
