Chapter 39 by airwreck airwreck

Who was the first to arrive?

Kaylee.

"You look great!" complimented Kaylee.

"Um, thank..." Jonathan began as he looked up from his phone but became speechless when he saw her wearing a purple cheongsam, embroidered with blue and white flowers. The traditional Chinese short-sleeved silk dress, which went down to her ankles with high-slit cuts reaching up to the top of her thighs, was famous for being figure-hugging -- and on Kaylee it magnified her curvaceous body.

"Thank you," she giggled.

"Um, sorry! What?" he blurted, snapping out of his gaze.

"You were going to thank me," she smiled, sauntering up to him.

"Yeah, and you look gorgeous in that dress!" he smiled back.

"It fits me like a glove," she said, twirling on her high heels to give him a full 360 degree view of her and her dress. "I have no idea how Julie got my measurements."

"Me neither," Eva added as she arrived with Lauren, Hane, and Cindy.

"Wow," marveled Jonathan while his eyes feasted on the four women wearing cheongsam, missing the glare Kaylee shot at them.

Eva wore a black dress, embroidered gold and red flowers, that went down to her calves; Lauren wore a dark blue dress with white flowers down to her knees; Hane wore a red dress with a embroidered gold dragon running from her right shoulder to her left hip; and Cindy wore a sleeveless solid red dress.

"Should we go downstairs to wait for the rest of the girls?" Kaylee asked, looking past the other four women to see if anyone else was coming.

"Sure," Jonathan shrugged unable to take his eyes off of his crewmates in their body-hugging dresses.

The elevator cab arrived and Jonathan held the door open to let the women enter first, allowing him to steal glances at them as they walked past him.

"Did you tell Julie our measurements, Jon?" Lauren asked after he stepped in.

"Nope," he shook his head, with his back against the doors so he could face the women. "I had no idea she was planning to give us anything, let alone cheongsam."

"I guess your mother would know," Hane pondered. "By the way, you look very handsome in your Tang suit. It fits you very well!" She brushed her hand across his broad shoulder and down his muscular arm.

"Thanks," he smiled nervously as the other girls took the cue to caress his jacket with their hands as well. "And all of you look beautiful in your dresses."

Then the elevator door slid opened and Jonathan stepped backwards, almost hitting a bellhop.

"Sorry!" he apologized to the young man before escorting his female crewmates to the sofas in the lobby, where they turned heads of staff and guests.

"Do you know where we are going for dinner?" Eva wondered as she carefully sat down.

"Julie arranged everything," Lauren shrugged.

Jonathan stood between the two sofas and his Navy SEAL training instinctively kicked in -- he looked around the lobby like a bodyguard, scanning for any potential threats even though he knew there were not any. "Huh," he muttered.

"What's wrong?" Cindy asked before all of the women turned their heads in the direction where he was looking.

Who was Jonathan looking at?
