Chapter 3 by Anon1946 Anon1946

What symbol did you choose?

The Spiral - Max Caulfield

The darkness lasted a few seconds before a flash of lightning illuminated the world. You hear a crack of thunder bellow, the only noise louder than the howling wind and constant rain. You realized you were laying in the mud, face down, and feeling very weak, as if it was impossible to do anything but continue laying on the ground. Determined, you try to get on your feet, though you’re disoriented by the sudden change of position. As you try to stand up, your weak state is joined by an unfamiliar center of gravity. You fall onto your back, confused. Unfortunately, your confusion grows into bewilderment as you look down and see two lumps on your chest, and you’re certain that they weren’t there before all of this happened.

“What the absolute hell is going on here?! Why was I in that weird void? Where am I now?” You ask aloud in a different voice, panicking as you try to understand what was happening before realizing what you sounded like.

“Wait, why do I sound like this? Why do I sound like a girl?!”

As your chest pounds, drawing more unwanted attention to your new breasts, you close your eyes and try to ignore the raging storm around you. It isn’t easy, but you manage to calm down a bit and try to think.

What was going on? As impossible as this all was, it wasn’t what the note for the watch said would happen. You expected to just appear in Arcadia Bay as some sort of ghost. You didn’t know anything about that watch, but it clearly wasn’t some joke, if your surroundings gave you any indication.

‘But why did it do all of this,’ you think to yourself. ‘I’m not a ghost, my weight and lack of transparency makes that much obvious. Did the watch stop working somehow?’ And as that last thought passes through your head, you realize something much more important.

“Where’s the watch?!”

You immediately being searching for the watch that brought you here. If that watch can somehow transport you to a different place in a different body, it must be able to transport you back home, or at least save you from this storm somehow. There was just enough light to see your surroundings, so you start looking on the ground, hoping you just dropped it or that it fell. Unfortunately, the watch wasn't there. Although, come to think of it, you don't remember holding while you were in that void. Did it just transport you here, leaving itself behind? A sudden crack of thunder brought you back to reality, reminding you that there's still a storm going on around you. You manage to get up on your feet, knowing that staying put isn't your best chance at survival. You see a path leading further up that you hadn't noticed while panicking and start heading up. On your way you see a lighthouse. You hoped this might help to find other people, or a road, or anything that would get you to safety.

Unfortunately, you don't find safety. Instead, as you get to the top of the path, you see the exact opposite of safety in the distance. Dead ahead of you, beyond the lighthouse cliff you find yourself at, is the storm, but it's not just a storm. It's a tornado. An absolutely enormous hurricane, so tall that it merged with the dark clouds that covered the sky. It was moving towards a small town on the shore, and considering the town was a fraction of the tornado's height, it was clear that nothing would withstand or survive that tornado. It might have been a hurricane, but you didn't exactly have time to look up the differences.

While you stood awestruck by the colossal storm, you didn't notice the small fishing boat whirling around the tornado, gaining speed, until it managed to escape the storm and fly directly toward the lighthouse. Frozen by the spectacle, you watched as the boat went through the lighthouse. Broken parts of the structure began to fall through the air to crush you.

All you could do was stare, frozen in terror, as it fell faster and faster, closer and closer, ready to crush you until-

You awoke with a start, breathing quickly and you took in new surroundings yet again. This time you were in a classroom, which was certainly a step up from an unstoppable, killer storm. You don't remember ever being in this classroom before, but it seems familiar. Very familiar. Where did you know this from? Before you thought more about it, you looked ahead toward a man, likely the teacher, before realizing who he was, and where you were. Leaning on a table ahead of you was a monster. An absolute shit of a person and walking 'please arrest me' sign. Mark Jefferson, antagonist of Life is Strange, murderer, and serial kidnapper. The only upside to seeing that affront to creation is that he's from Life is Strange. And if he's actually here, horribleness and all, then that means that the watch worked. Sort of. You take a look at yourself and realize who's body you're in: Max Caulfield. It made sense. The rewind spiral must have been her symbol, what with Max being the only person with a rewind thing going on, even if other symbols could have been related to her. Since you didn't have the watch, you figured you're going to be stuck as Max, possibly for the rest of your life. You figure it could be worse. The ability to rewind time is amazing and limitless, so you can still have some fun here.

That leaves you with one question. What's the plan? Utilize your foreknowledge and take matters into your own hands? Go with the flow and re-enact the game? Maybe you want to turn Arcadia Bay into your own personal slice of heaven, who knows?

How do you proceed?
