Time to test the mystery machine?
Testing Time!
Nina sat down in her faux latex swivel chair happily, it was an absolute steal they had found at a garage sale and it was by far her favorite seat, she loved how easily it supported her lithe frame and the arm rests to, it made her feel like one of those super villains she had heard about in those movies and it was just plain comfy to of course. She used her legs to throw the seat back to her bed and grab the device, setting it into her lap as she made her way back to her own workshop esque table, it was one of the first things her father made for her after they had gotten a house when some neighbors asked if they'd like to have some wood they didn't need, her father was a master at if which made sense as his own father was a master carpenter when he was a kid before...things happened the way they did. She would cherish it forever, the clear amount of work and dedication present in it like everything her father ever touched, created with love and passion and effort. Something she swore she would do when she had kids...well...if she had kids, she'd still felt embarrassed at the thought as she pulled at her twin tails and covered her face with them at the thought of her and...NO! "Focus Nina! Carl can wait..." she said trying not to shout lest her parents hear and start asking questions, she proceeded to analyze the device she had lugged home.
She must have been more tired then she thought, cause the futuristic machine wasn't anywhere near as heavy as she sworn it had felt earlier. It felt like someone had attempted to create a rectangular balloon out of metal and that was only a slight exaggeration, it positively baffled her especially since what she had learned in high school told her that machines couldn't possibly run with such little stuff inside unless this weird backpack thing...had nothing but micro chips and processes stuck to the walls inside of the machine...? No that was ridiculous, as futuristic as this thing looked it still was something man-made, it had to be, their was no other explanation. Though the lack of any trademark or other identifying features freaked her out, it reminded her of Nikola Tesla and all of the stuff he had created or done with little or no credit given. Had she come across some independent inventor's magnum opus? She certainly hoped not, knowing what her father had been through in the attempts to create something like this...she felt a heavy pang of guilt before shaking it off.
What was with her tonight? It wasn't like her to develop so many crazy conspiracy theories? She had no evidence of any of these claims that popped up into her head besides at best circumstantial evidence. As she snapped herself out of these delusions and such she finally noticed the chute on top of the metal cuboid, though she was immediately disappointed to learn that looking inside rendered no information whatsoever, as if the inside was coated in Vanta Black paint or something. Though it wasn't helped by how despite how big the chute was the actual hole inside was tiny...it occurred to her she might get a better idea of this based off of wearing it properly. So she picked it up and put it back on her back pushing the chair out of the way and picking up the hose she hadn't thought much of. After all most devices could have some kinda clue about how they are supposed to be used based off of how they were worn, and as she looked at it closer she noticed it was very similiar to a leaf blower, so she got to thinking and grabbed a junk mail that was super shiny and glossy from her desk and crammed it into the chute on top of the device. It took some doing but it eventually went in and she heard a positive beep of confirmation as if telling her she was on the right track, she also noticed a little round screen on the end of the hose...had that always been their?
It said "First input confirmed" and their were all of these on screen buttons showing stuff like "Colorful", "Glossy", "Informal", and stuff of that sort. She then flicked her attention to a note pad she had on her desk that was really beaten up in the moving truck and couldn't help but wonder if perhaps she could revitalize it or make something better? She did her best to fold it so it'd fit through the quarter sized hole and smiled when at one point it seemed to suck right in as if the pressure differential had shifted dramatically. Then she noticed the small text buttons shrunk and went to the left side of the screen whilst equal sized buttons appeared on the right underneath "Second Input" after it had confirmed the input like it had for the junk mail. The note pad showed word bubbles like "Degraded", "Informal", "Inert", she smiled and selected "Inert", "Informal", "Colorful", and "Glossy" and was amazed at what popped out. The screen had "OUTPUT CREATED" block out everything else and gasped in amazement as the notepad that came out was beautifully colorful and glossy but it wasn't plastic or something, it was honest to god paper retaining colors that changed with the angle of the light hitting it. She wasn't sure if such a thing was normally possible but if it was she had never even once seen such a thing, she couldn't help but just stare at it for minutes on end before snapping out of it and laying the notepad down, opening it, and writing in it, the contrast of the color was so breath-taking and the black lead still contrasted so well it was incredibly easy to make-out anything and everything written down.
Her mind was racing with ideas but before she could audible let her excitement known and scare the crap out her parents she stopped herself. Just cause that happened doesn't mean it could combine/make things out of anything so she had to try something else. She wondered what would happen to the things she already put in when she put something new in...she proceeded to put a pen into the chute and then put in one of the bits of lead meant to go into a mechanical pencil. She continued staring at the screen as the inputs seemed to "go around" as if she had swiped to the right twice with the "Input 1" and "Input 2" replaced with "Ink Pen" and "Pencil lead". She selected the traits of "Slim", "Simple Mechanics", "Container", and she breathed a sigh of relief when this popped out a significantly more comfortable means of writing with lead. That did it, it was a bit assumptious to assume what this applied to without rigorous and constant testing but the fact that she tried it with completely different pairs of items one after the other made her at least confident that for the time being it seemed like the sky was the limit. She wanted to keep testing but as she noticed what time it was she set the machine down in the corner of her room and hopped in bed and turned off the lights. She would continue exploring this thing and the possibilities it presented in the morning, and of course as she drifted off she couldn't stop thinking about food and hoped this was the thing to help she'd always desired to find.
