A different idea

“Let’s move her to her room,” Grace said. “Carry her to the crib.”

Penny’s thumb made its way into her mouth as they lifted her up from her cot and carried her to her new room with the crib in the middle of it against the wall. Grace plopped her down on the crib mat and then raised the bar, locking it. “Aw look at her. She’s such a baby,” Lindsay cooed, snapping pictures.

Penny rolled over as she laid sprawled, diaper on display, thumb in her mouth. The others gazed at her. As they did, they heard the sound of the door opening. “Girls, I’m home!” Their mom called out as she made her way up the stairs.

“Shhh, mom,” Grace said. “The baby’s sleeping.”

Their mom came down the hallway, and looked at Penny’s new room. “Oh my… did you do all of this?”

Grace smiled. “It was Penny’s idea. I told her it was crazy, but she insisted. I guess this was her goal all along. But look.”

Their mom looked into the crib where Penny was sleeping. “She does look adorable,” Maria said. “Hmm. Maybe it would be best for her stay like that for awhile. For now though, I should wake her up.”
