Chapter 4

Small talk
Roy stared out the window during taxing and take off, but finally accepted that he was going to be stuck on this flight for hours next to his daughter's new friend, a complete stranger that he desperately didn't want to be part of their trip. He turned to break the ice and found his unwanted guest smiling at him.
"I swear, Mr. S., you have absolutely nothing to worry about," Christopher said. "My relationship with your daughter is completely platonic. She's like my sister."
"Thank you, Christopher," Roy said for lack of anything else to say.
"Call me Chris!"
"Thank you Chris. You can call me Roy, then."
For the next hour or so they made small talk, and Roy was surprised to find himself warming up to the kid. They liked the same sports teams, the same TV shows and even the same music. Before long it felt more like a conversation with an old friend rather than some random high school boy who wanted in his daughter's panties.
"So out of all of her friends, why did Chloe pick you?" he asked at last. "I mean, she and Serena have been best friends practically since they were in diapers. She's got a whole list of other girls she hangs out with regularly. She even has her boyfriend. Why would she choose you to go to Hawaii?"
"I guess she was just being nice," he said with a laugh. "She was worried about me. I recently went through something of a bad break-up, which also cost me most of my friends. Chloe has been the only one who has been there for me through it all. She kinda adopted me. Introduced me to her friends. I think she was worried about leaving me home alone."
"Break ups suck," Roy said. "Were you and your girlfriend together long?"
"Actually, it was my boyfriend," Chris said. Roy did his best not to show surprise at finding out this potential panty dropper was actually gay. "But we had been together since middle school, so yeah, we had been together a long time."
"Wow, that sucks."
"So does he!" Chris said. "I stopped my his apartment and caught him on his knees in front of one of his co-workers from Dairy Queen. He was getting a mouthful of Cookies and Creme right when I walked in."
Roy looked away, blushing. He was LGBTQ friendly, but he wasn't used to hearing details of LGBTQ sex lives (or anyone's sex life) being discussed quite so openly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to embarass you," Chris said suddenly, placing his hand on Roy's, which was gripping the arm rest. "I just get so upset when I talk about it."
"Walking in one someone you love in such a...uh...intimate situation would upset anyone," Roy said. Chris squeezed his hand, but didn't let it go.
"I'm glad you understand, I can see where Chloe gets it from," the boy said with a smile. "I wish my parents had been as understanding. I lived with my aunt all of senior year because my parents kicked me out when I came out to them last summer. My dad acted like I was going to catch him in the shower and have my way with him. Don't get me wrong, I like cute DILFs as much as the next gay guy, but he was my own dad."
"I'm sorry you've had such a rough road," Roy said.
"Thanks, Roy," Chris said, squeezing his hand again. "I mean, I've been, uh, actively gay since middle school. Keeping that from them for four years was hard, especially when mom was trying to set me up with all of her friend's daughters, but having them kick me out was almost to much to take. Then to catch Matt cheating with the Dairy Queen..."
"Hey, just forget about your parents and Matt, at least while your on vacation with us," Roy said. "I do everything I can to make these trips memorable. You're part of this one, so you're going to be making memories to."
"Sounds fun."
They moved on from the sex talk and discissions of Chris's parents and spent the remainder of the flight talking about random interest they had in common.
