This takes place just after season 2 of RWBY and the Whitley is more like the one from the story 'The Invincible Whitley Schnee' on fanfiction.net than the one in the show ie he's the MacGyver of Remnant.

Just as the island came into visual range the bullhead started to lose power fast. They got it to with in 100 meters of the beach when the Bullhead just quit and glided into the sea. Whitley bounced his head against the panel and was knocked out so she grabbed him and swam him to the beach

It was getting dark, the temperature was dropping and they were both soaking wet.
