Kazuichi faces a trial immediately.

In his previous entrance, Kazuichi had woken up groggy on a concrete floor. The mechanic had no way of knowing if he was going to wake up from sleep like he had before, or if he would be immediately thrust back into his saucy situation with Mikan.

What he hadn’t expected was an immediate snap to awareness in an entirely new location. It was quite literally a “snap”: Mahiru was standing in front of his face, rapidly snapping her fingers in his face as though to wake him up. “Earth to Kazuichi! Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

Kazuichi clammed up instinctively. He wasn’t groggy, but he was incredibly disoriented. He took a look around, wondering how he got back in front of Mahiru... and, glancing around, the situation wasn’t making much more sense.

The group was in the lobby of a sprawling building with a full-height glass face that let in sunlight from the outside. A grand staircase accessed more floors above than Kazuichi could count from where he was standing, and there were a couple of elevators, besides. The aesthetic was a lot of white, accents of black, glass, and granite surfaces. It was no building he remembered seeing on Jabberwock Island, and no place he’d ever been before. His eyes finally landed on a banner at the front desk that gave him a name without an explanation: “New Game Therapy Resort.” It was a little on-the-nose, but he supposed there was no reason the program needed to be creative with that.

Standing or sitting around this lobby was a number of familiar faces from the Class he’d escaped the original Killing Game with: Mahiru, of course, along with Hiyoko, Mikan, and a face he hadn’t seen in a long time... As expected, all of them were older than they'd been at that time, but all were dressed similarly to what they’d worn at that time. He noticed that all eyes were on him, with expressions that varied from disgust, to anger, to concern, to confusion. Another thing he noticed was that there was no hotel staff to be seen anywhere in this enormous lobby.

Back to the matter at hand, Kazuichi realized he was standing clutching his Usami Pad, or whatever Chiaki had called it. At some point, he must have cleaned himself and zipped himself back up, but he’d apparently gotten himself in a new mess, regardless. The scene was heavy with some accusation against him.

Finally, he cleared his throat and spoke. “Uh… I’m sorry. Remind me, uh, what I’m in trouble for, exactly?”

“Ugh!” Mahiru threw her arms up, stamping away from him in exasperation. “I can’t do this. Can someone else please deal with this guy?”

Hajime Hinata stepped forward, but not as Kazuichi had seen him in years. From the other young man’s dull and ordinary eyes, it was plain to Kazuichi that his appearance here was based on how he’d been before Junko Enoshima had revealed his past and his latent abilities to him. This wasn't the barely-human Izuru Kamukura, nor the half-step between Izuru and Hajime that now lived on Jabberwock Island in the real world, but the ordinary level-headed young man, straightening his tie as he tried to talk things through in a role everyone seemed to naturally expect of him. “Kazuichi, we had you working on a motor we planned to install to leave the island this resort is on. You remember that, yeah?”

Kazuichi nodded dumbly, having no idea what Hajime was talking about but not wanting to slow down the explanation.

“Okay, so while everyone expected you to be working on that…” Hajime paused, staring at Kazuichi. When the mechanic only gave him silence in return, he continued with a look of annoyance. “Hiyoko here claims you were receiving ‘medical attention’ from Mikan on the floor in the hallway over there.”

Although Kazuichi was struggling to think up a defense, it turned out there was someone else in more of a hurry. Mikan had gotten a bit cleaned up, but her soggy nurse outfit was still evidence of what had happened. “I-I told all of you, it was just a s-s-standard procedure! I didn’t do anything wrooong!”

“For once, you didn’t screw up, so can you please stop whining?” Hiyoko interrupted her with impatience. “Yeah, what you were doing was normal, but what this shitstain was up to was total degeneracy! Imagine shooting your wad in the middle of a nurse's treatment… Got anything to say for yourself, Kazuichi?”

The accused needed a moment for his brain to catch up, but he wasn’t able to even do that without working through the situation out loud. “Okay… So… Nobody notices that a trigger was used on Mikan. Everybody sees that as a normal way to act. But nobody thinks it’s normal for me to cum…”

There was a stir among the women, and Hajime made an effort to calm them down before speaking up to question Kazuichi. He seemed incredulous, but was trying to take the situation seriously. “Normal? Seeing that she wasn’t getting help from any corner, Hiyoko whirled around to Kazuichi, preparing to defend herself. She was disarmed to find him grinning at her. “Wh-what’s so funny, weirdo?”

The mechanic laughed at the strange feeling of having one up on Hiyoko. Setting aside the modern world and its Hiyoko, he definitely never got wins like this over her in the bratty phase she was closer to here. “Well, I guess it’s normal for a kid like you not to recognize an adult procedure, eh? “Don’t treat me like-“ Hiyoko started, before a ding went off and her lips instantly shut. Kazuichi continued to enjoy a laugh at her expense, but with the pressure off of him for a moment, he decided to take a look at his pad again and see what had changed. He was getting more familiar with the process now, so he wasn’t surprised to find some new pink text. It seemed like whatever Hajime’s first challenge had been, he’d raised the flag and conquered it all at once.

The Usami text on screen elaborated further: “Hajime takes it upon himself to be a leader, but he’s a friend who’ll listen and support you when you stand your ground. When you have a problem, try asking for his help!”

He tapped away from it quickly. The trigger he’d just abused for Hajime was probably powerful enough that Kazuichi could have reasonably paid it a lot of attention, but there were other notifications to look at. What else? Well, Mikan’s status had updated since he last looked. The message now displayed: “Wow, who knew nurses do anything like that? She looks like a proper nurse, but she doesn’t act like one… Actually, does Mikan ever wear anything else besides that uniform?”

Of course, hanging out with Mikan had been exciting earlier, but rather than focusing on her only, he found himself compelled to check out the other features.

There was a new button at the bottom of the screen in the triggers list: it displayed the text “UPGRADE” with an “x1” beside it. He saw a flashing message “HELP” button beside it, and tapped it to get a new message from Usami: “The program got the idea that you might get tired of your old triggers, or might have some favorite ones you’d like to get more use out of! This daily feature will let you supe up your favorites with more power or utility! Just keep in mind that, at least for right now, you’ll only get one upgrade every time you log in. Games that give you bonuses just for showing up every day are nice, huh…? How generous!”

This called to attention another new feature. Whereas he’d previously only seen riddle-like text statements from Usami to describe the triggers, he was now able to see something more like a comprehensive list. Right now, the lists for the people in the room with him read:

Hiyoko Saionji:

• If she insults you and then hears you insult her, she becomes unable to complain, resist, disagree, or speak offensively for a short period. When the time runs out, she will not remember the insult. Previously done: Insulted dancing, Accused of acting like a kid

As he looked over these lists… Kazuichi had the strangest feeling he was forgetting something, something that ought to be hard to forget. Wasn’t there something he’d decided on, just a short while ago? Something important… He looked up from his pad and at his friend Hiyoko fidgeting with feeble gestures that didn’t quite amount to a struggle, and that important thing suddenly came to him:

“Crap, I gotta hurry!” he reminded himself. “That trigger on Hiyoko will run out, and then I’ll have to think up some other thing to shut her up. If I can only use each one once, I’ll regret it if I burn through all of ‘em…” Would it make sense to try and use the last bit of her **** silence to slip out of this gathering? Or was there something else Kazuichi could do?
