Evie's demon joins the fight

Your wounds slow your movement, allowing the demons to cut you again and again, further slowing your reflexes. Exhaustion battles with the adrenaline in your system, threatening to leave you at the mercy of the demon mass. You **** your arms to continue swinging away, killing and killing.

Suddenly the press of demons eases off, less and less trying to attack you at each time, allowing you to clear a small space around yourself, and forge on further through the horde. A demon jumps up at your face, and you slice it in two and barrel on through the dissolving smoky body to come face to face with a tall figure.

In a small clearing in the middle of the demons stands the powerful form of Evie’s lust demon. Its purple eyes filled with rage this time, rather than its lust from earlier. The torso of the demon is covered by a segmented black breastplate, sliver runes glittering menacingly on its surface. The base of a short black tunic protrudes from the breastplate, running down to mid thigh. Black greaves protect the demon’s calves and knees. Black bracers cover the demon’s forearms, and in its hands it carries an enormous two handed broadsword. Over the demon’s shoulders you see Evie, teeth gritted and brow wrinkled in concentration, focusing intently on controlling the powerful demon born of her intense lust.

Suddenly Evie throws her hand forward, and the lust demon jumps into the writhing mass, swinging its massive sword in wide arcs, ripping the small demons to pieces. You watch the demon for a few seconds, and notice that you are safe for the time being, the powerful lust demon controlled by Evie holding off the horde of demons for a short while. An idea springs to mind, and you call over your shoulder:

“Evie! Hold them off for a bit, I’m going to try something that may help.”

The little girl nods and redoubles her concentration, controlling the lust demon with surprising skill. With the Evie holding off the horde for a bit, you allow yourself to concentrate on the forming of the spell.

Using a powerful spell of destruction on the mass of demons would certainly kill them off, and probably you and Evie aswell, but would do nothing about other demons that may be outside, or even demons that come tomorrow night, or the next, and so on. You need something that can do damage to the demons over a long period of time, something that will stay and guard this area, you need to build a construct.

You discovered that magic could make ‘constructs’ about a year ago, whilst experimenting with different forms of magic. A construct is a machine that runs off magic, something built with magic for a specific purpose. Constructs don’t just stay around whilst you are focused on them, but rather exist until their store of magical energy runs dry. Generally constructs are useless, requiring a stupid amount of magical energy to create, but they sometimes have their uses.
