Chapter 39 by quiboune quiboune

...

Pretend nothing happened.

You sit down and look around. You're near the pond and Jen is still out cold, but the others aren't here. The greatest changes are the fact that Amari and her pond are gone. Her memories are floating inside your head, returning every now and then, but you're sure you could access them whenever you wanted. Your body looks a lot like your last form, but you have closed, bright eyes just like Amari's now and instead of a doll made from various plant parts you have an actual living body. You pinch your skin and it doesn't tear open, you touch your tongue and you can feel the taste of your fingers, it's nice being like this. If there was any doubt if something was really broken with your stats, now you're sure. You have immunity to basically everything, even fire, your only weakness. It's a mess, and you should find a way of fixing it. You feel a sense of loss when you remember you didn't get to fuck Amari. Well, at least you still have two playthings at your disposal.

You reach for Liz's tag inside your inventory, where it appeared after Amari killed her. You use the tag and throw it on the ground in front of you. After a while the tag floats and a light emerges from it, slowly gaining size until it takes a humanoid shape an gains color. After a few seconds, Liz appears in front of you, safe and sound.

As soon as she appears, Liz faints. You heal and position her near the sleeping Jen. You then walk to the spot where the pond used to be and conjure water. You make the water purple so so one notices what changed here. Looking into your memories, you can see that Amari used to talk through the pond in mysterious sounds and sensation to those she wanted to tell something, the typical arrogant god messages. People won't mind if she doesn't appear anymore, they'll think she's pleased, so the lack of Amari won't be a problem.

You take both girls out the room into the fortress. You can still hear fighting out there, but much more silent. You leave Liz and Jen in a room far away from the pond over a bed you find. With that done, you walk towards the exit. You can see an army of priestesses lying on the ground, defeated. They're all alive and stable. On the way out you find an open door leading to a library. In the middle of the dark room filled with bookcases you see a golden book, locked and chained to the ground. "The Cult for Amari", seems to be some kind of bible. You break the chains and take it.

When you reach the balcony again you undo the pillar you used to get over here and look at the patio, where you see your summon, with one arm and full of arrows sticking out of its body and dozens of cuts and holes, fighting against the Arch Priestess you saw before. She seems to be hurt as well but keeps on fighting for Amari. Then the creature lunges forward and tries hitting her arm, but hits her shield instead, getting stuck. The priestess takes the oportunity and lets go of her shield. She holds her sword with both hands and cuts the creature's arm off in a single chop, sending it's sap flying around. Luckly not a drop of it reaches the priestess, and she doesn't wait a moment before attacking again and cutting its head off.

Its limp, wooden body hits the ground, dead. The priestess almost falls to the ground, but she supports herself on her sword and screams her victory to the night sky as you fly away, enjoying existing without needing anyone else.

Hours later, back in the inn, you're on the bed, reading the book you stole, when they arrive. Liz is supporting Jen with one arm while they walk side to side. They both have sad, worried faces. When they enter the room and see you, they can't hold it anymore and walk to you, Jen crying. You receive them with open arms and hug the two smaller girls for a long time. Liz isn't as sad as the priestess, which is understandable, considering she attacked Amari. After some time, she stops crying and manages to ask between hiccups

"What happened after I hit her?"
