Power Hour at The Blue House

When Mary Roslyn had texted Chloe for confirmation on where the blue house was for the party that night the response they got was ‘It’s on Grove Street… it’s the blue house lol”

Grove street was the center of the off-campus student housing. A bunch of older homes converted into apartments mixed among some newer developments. Almost everyone who lived in the Grove (as it was affectionately known) was a student. As such it had become a huge area for house parties. If the party wasn’t on frat row it was in the Grove.

The blue house the group discovered was aptly named. For reasons unknown to them in this section of town there was only one house painted blue. The paint job had faded over the years but there was no mistaking it. It was a one story three bedroom house. Smaller than the others on the block it made up for it with a large front patio and a decent sunken backyard that again had a deck overlooking. There was another two bedroom apartment in the basement bringing the total number of occupants to 5.

“Welcome to the Blue house bitchessss!” Chloe practically shouted jumping off the couch to greet Blair, Mary Roslyn, and Maria. The red head appeared to be already a bit tipsy as she hugged the freshman.

“Glad you could make it.” Miranda said also wandering over this time with beers in hand. “You guys ever done a power hour before?”

“No.” Blair said as she looked to her right and both of her friends agreed that they hadn’t either.

“It’s really simple” the dark haired senior started to explain “the idea is that you take a drink every minute for the next hour. They have a special playlist that plays a different song every minute. So when you hear the song change take a drink!”

“That is simple.” Maria said cracking open her beer.

“Yup. It’s a Blue house tradition. They do it every Thursday without fail. Most folks come to pregame here for an hour before hitting the bars.” Chloe said. “Though there’s always a few folks who stay behind and hang out” she said the last part with a knowing look at the three freshman.

Suddenly there was a large shout from the crowd from over at the front door. Blair was startled at first before she realized what the group was yelling.

“STELLLLLLLLLLAAAAA!” Came the large shout as the order Delta Mu made her way into the house. She looked stunning with her short blonde hair in a bob and a little black dress on. The biggest statement though was the fact that she had on thigh high leather boots with a 6” heel.

“Stella’s boyfriend is one of they guys that lives her. So as you can imagine with walls these thin she’s pretty popular.” It was Daniela who had appeared from the kitchen holding her own beer. Blair’s stomach did a small flip as they locked eyes. She quickly looked away, but not quickly enough not to have noticed how attractive she looked in a simple crop top and jeans.

“It’s almost 8.” Daniela remarked as she greeted her fellow sisters. “Where’s the guest of honor?”

As if on cue, Devon walked in with another group of sisters that consisted of Maddie, Phoebe, Emilie, Tia, and Madelyn. The assembled sisters applauded her entrance. Blair noticed a few of the guys did too, throwing in some wolf whistles. The blonde acknowledged them with a wave of her hand in mock appreciation.

“2 Minutes people! If you don’t have a beer get one!” Came a deep voice from the corner of the room where a table had been set up near some speakers. There was a laptop in front of him.

A loud cheer went up as at 8 on the dot the music started and Blair took her first swig of beer a minute later when the song changed. She had started the hour with the same group that had been talking but soon a few minutes in the older sister drifted away to see and chat with other friends leaving the three freshman by themselves.

“You two better get moving.” Maria said.

“We’ve got plenty of time…” Mary Roslyn replied though the nerves permeated through her voice.

“You heard Chloe a lot of people leave for the bars after the hours up.” The song changed and they all took a drink.

“Yeah but she also said alot of people stay behind and keep hanging out. Blair commented.

“Sure. But if you wanna get stuck blowing someone who just sticks around be my guest. If I were you I’d get out their and at least start laying some groundwork…” Maria said with a shrug. The stops in silence for a moment. The song changed again. They drank again.

“She’s right.” Blair said turning towards Mary Roslyn “let’s start looking. By the time the hour is up we both need to have picked out at least two options. We have to have talked to both of them to make sure that they are staying after. Then after the power hour is over we come back together and pick one. If they say no we move to the other. Deal?” She stuck out her hand trying to seem more confident than she actually was. Mary Roslyn just looked at the hand with fear…

“I guess…” she said nervous.

“And if either of you don’t have two options by the end of the hour you have to do whatever the blue house bet is!” Maria said with a smirk to her new friends.

“But we don’t even know what that is!” Blair laughed.

“Exactly. But if it’s enough to have Devon embarrassed it should be plenty enough to motivate the both of you.”

“Let’s do it.” Now it was Mary Roslyn’s turn to sound more confident than she actually was.

“Deal.” Blair responded as they shook hands.
