Potion of Perspective

Vanessa spends a while walking around the store until she stumbles upon a section with various liquids in vials. The vials claimed to be filled with potions. This made Vanessa chuckle as she read one labeled ‘Potion of Perspective’. Suddenly, Vanessa is startled by the old woman standing next to her.

“I see you have taken interest in the potions.” The wrinkled old woman said, looking up at Vanessa.

“I don’t know if I would say that. I mean, clearly these aren’t real. Potions aren’t real.” Vanessa scoffed.

“Are you so sure?” The old woman said, raising an eyebrow. “This world is filled with many wonderful things.”

“I know that, but magic potions?” Vanessa responded. “Magic isn’t real, so neither are magic potions.”

“Well, if you are so sure, why don’t you drink that potion right now?” The owner asked. “I’ll even give it to you for free, as long as you drink it now.”

“Well, if that is the case.” Vanessa replied, popping the seal off of the vial. The liquid smelled like an old spice cabinet mixed with swamp water. This made her hesitate, but her pride got the better of her. After all, potions aren’t real. She downed the liquid as fast as she could. The strangely warm liquid left a tingling feeling in her mouth, but the taste wasn’t as bad as she expected. Pulling the empty vial away from her lips, Vanessa handed it to the old woman. “There, I drank the ‘potion’ like you asked. So, what’s it supposed to do, turn me into a frog.” Vanessa said sarcastically.

“Oh, nothing as silly as that. It will just give you a different perspective on things. It should take place some time today, so don’t do anything stupid.” The old woman said, turning away from Vanessa and going back to her counter.

Unsure of what the woman could be talking about, Vanessa decided it would be best not to think too hard about it. After all, she has so much of the day left.
