Poll Results

Thanks to everyone who voted! We got 43 votes this time, which is a bit of a drop since last time, but I think the gap between updates probably contributed to that. The voting method was a little more time-consuming this time, but nobody complained about it, so I’m assuming it wasn’t a deterrent to too many people. The tiers this time are a little less defined, but I think we can still get a good enough feel of how people are voting.

Poll 1: Which characters do you like?

With 43 voters, the maximum number of points a character could get was 430. Of that, Emilia scored 313 points, or about 73%. This is actually a noticeable drop from the 85% she scored on the previous character poll. From this, it sounds like most readers like Emilia, but if you press them on how much they like Emilia, there are actually other characters who they like more. Regardless, Emilia still scored far and away better than everyone else, stealing the show and booting Gina off of her S tier throne, as no other characters even secured 50% (215 votes) this time around.

I think the ranked voting made the tiers a little more competitive, since there’s a limit to the points each voter can give, whereas the older polls let voters vote for literally everyone if they wanted. So the lower tiers are a little more populated this time, but I’m not too worried about that. There are a few interesting points, though. I don’t know if anyone wants to read me ramble about my attempts to interpret these results, but I’m gonna do it anyway. It’s your fault if you end up bored!

The only new character in Part 9 was Blaire. Though several people named her their favorite Gym Leader, it seems that the returning cast are just better liked than Gym Leaders in general, so she only landed in B tier alongside Misty (who scored slightly better than Blaire, actually). Still, since Gym Leaders have scored poorly in these polls previously, I’m happy that she made it that high.

Gina, Grey, Lt. Surge, and Marie all dropped at least one tier, and Marie specifically dropped THREE tiers, from A to D. This is probably because they all played roles in Part 8, but disappeared in Part 9, so people lost interest. Marie’s drop was really sharp though, which I assume is because she was only introduced in Part 9, so she didn’t have any staying power once she was gone.

Sally only saw a small increase compared to her usual results, despite making a reappearance in Part 9. Usually that bolsters a character’s popularity quite a bit, but Sally seems to be stuck at the bottom end of the polls. That’s fine, because it just means that people like the other characters quite a bit. I still had fun writing her scene and I don’t regret bringing her in for some ghosthunting antics.

So, let’s talk about Brooke… At 19 votes, she came up at less than half of Janine’s 47 votes, justifying an F tier all to herself. Nobody likes this character. I mentioned this during the last poll results, but Brooke was intentionally written to be annoying, so I can’t be too surprised that she scores poorly. Still, these results are pretty ****. I almost feel like I should apologize for inflicting Brooke on people! Nah, it’s not that serious. Like I mentioned earlier, this type of poll is competitive, so all those points Emilia is hogging have to come from someone, and Brooke just isn’t making it into many people’s top ten.
