Police Detective

Chapter 2 by 11kestrels 11kestrels

A year ago, she was a rookie beat cop, fresh out of the academy. She worked hard, took shifts nobody else wanted and a year later it all paid off. She flipped her badge open at the front desk and signed the log as the duty officer checked her in. "Good morning to you Detective Everly. I hope your first day is a good one!" he smiled.

"Thanks Joe," she smiled back. "I hope so too."

Joe watched her as she confidently strode toward the plain clothes side of the department. He was proud of her. Why shouldn't he be? She was, after all, his youngest daughter Jillian. She had decided long ago to follow in his footsteps and hopefully become the best detective the precinct would ever know.

Jillian paused at the door and looked back at the desk. She smiled at her dad then opened the door and stepped through it. It closed noiselessly behind her as she scanned the desks of the other detectives before her. There in the far left corner stood an empty desk. She knew the desk had to be hers from the lack of clutter, so she headed straight for it. There on the desk was her brand new name plate: Detective Jillian Everly. She took a seat and waited patiently for what came next.
