Chapter 18 by Cantalope Cantalope

What's next?

PoV: Vila

{if Pervert > 0}Pervert variable now tracking Vila.{endif}

Amber struggles against your grip, calling back into the darkness for her companion, "Jay! Jay!!" {If Relationship > 20}{if Relationship > 30} You keep your grip tight, knowing she'd be off and running if you lost your hold, "Be still child, there's nothing we can do." She sobs, ignoring your protests and struggling until she's exhausted. You pull her into an embrace, enveloped by your tails, stroking her back as she cries into your shoulder.{else} Her struggles gradually subside and she slumps to the ground, head bowed. You hold her, enveloped in your tails, while you look around.{endif}{else} She bows her head, expression furious, but her eyes are bright with tears. You hold her tightly to you, wrapping her in your tails as you look around.{endif} The village guard, some 20 ragged looking but sturdy men watch on in silence. They all seemed old, a few even seemed to have cataracts misting their eyes. Odd that they would send such old men to guard the town.

You address who you think is the leader, still enfolding the distraught young woman, "What was it?" He shakes his grizzled head, "A hunting beast of the lords. They knew someone entered the valley, they wanted to have some sport." You nod wearily. You should have insisted Amber and Jay return. You knew this valley was a cursed place.

"What brings two fox women into Karan Valley?" He leans on a crudely made spear, eyes sizing them up. You recognized the look and smirk, though you had to admit you weren't as fond of the expression when you were completely powerless. "We were traveling through on pilgrimage, our fellow in the woods was a Knight of Gladion." He looks impressed, eyeing the woods for any movement.{if Ran from wikita = 0} Yet another awful scream split the night, echoing strangely off of the peaks in the distance without the trees to muffle it. The guard raised his eyebrows, "That's interesting-" The tortured sounds of the beast continued for a minute, then cut off mid-scream with a snap like breaking bones. Silence rules the night for long minutes, "Well I'll be damned..." Amber looks up hopefully and the villagers exchange glances excitedly but the night remains quiet. No beast, no Jay.

"Pity. We could've used a holy man." The guards faces set once more with grim determination, spreading out along the village wall. Amber sagged again and you continue stroking her back. The guard captain motions for you to follow and you gently move with Amber after him.{else} The night was silent as the grave and after a moment the guards nod and spread to their posts again, finished gawking at the two beautiful ladies who had just run into town.{else} No sound can be heard over the low moan of the wind and the crackling of the torches. Jay wasn't coming. The guardsmen split up, continuing their patrol and the guard captain motions for you to follow and you gently move with Amber after him.{endif}

"C'mon, I'll show you to the 'inn'." You don't like how he says it like it's a joke but you follow with Amber, doing your best to console the poor girl.

"Welcome to Bastion, our little haven from the lords. Name is Thomas, people around here listen to what I say." You sat by a crude fireplace set in the middle of a crude building. No obvious stonework could be seen, it was all wood. Some of it was ancient and half-rotted, some of it looked like the bark had just been taken off. The whole town looked like this: a mess of shoddy craftsmanship and poor make. The people weren't much different. They all looked worn down, even the children, who you noticed peering out of doors and windows. There were a lot of them for such a decrepit place, you wonder how all these people were fed.Taken all together it sets your teeth on edge. Something was wrong about this place and you regretted dragging Amber into it. Almost. Even in the state of things you could barely stop yourself from sliding your hand lower to squeeze that beautiful ass. It had been hell traveling with such a nubile companion{if Slut > 20}, especially one so willing to show herself off to you{endif}.

"W-who are the lords?" You take it as a good sign that Amber is talking but don't diminish any of your contact with her. The old captain of the guard sits across from you on a cut log and he looks taken aback by the question, "So you really did just stumble in here with no idea what was waiting for you?" Amber bristles a little and pulls away from you, much to your dismay, but your voice is calm, "I... had an inkling but I never expected there to be a village here?"

"There shouldn't be. We wouldn't be here if we had a choice." He fixed Amber with a hard look, "The Lords are vampires, men and women who have died and returned as blood sucking monsters. They've 'lived' up in that castle since time immemorable. They put up the veil that stops all magic and the illusion that guards it. We're here because they got bored and decided to 'stock the pond' as it were. We've been doing all right for ourselves all things considered though, they haven't restocked in a while. You're the first outsiders we've seen in years."

"If they're vampires then... Jay?" He shook his head, "Almost certainly dead. They have a whole bunch of other things up there with 'em. Use them like we would hunting dogs, not that they need 'em." His bitterness is tired, you recognize the human despair that comes with age. You still didn't understand it but it made more sense in a place like this.

"You'll leave first thing in the morning then." Amber doesn't look happy about that. You suppose she had just lost her best and possibly only friend. Your gut feels rather queasy at the look she gives you, "'I'll leave'? While you go to the castle alone with no magic? Because you have such a great track record of sneaking past trouble?" You bristle, that was quite offensive for such a young kitsune to say to her elder, but you suppose you deserved it, "I won't abandon Jay. If there's a chance he's still alive I'm coming with you to free him." You regard her silently for a minute before nodding.

Thomas coughs, "That's just as well, you can't leave through the veil now that you've spent the night in the valley. Don't you think we'd have packed up and left by now if we could?"

The "inn" was a ramshackle building slightly larger than the rest of the ramshackle buildings, showing the faintest signs of proper workmanship compared to the rest of the town. The villagers drank some kind of fermented pine ale that smelled bitterly strong and sat around talking and drinking like any other tavern. The major difference was the laughter or rather the complete lack of it. The room was empty of mirth.You don't suppose you could blame them, this place was damned depressing even without the pervasive feel of darkness that seemed to infuse everything since passing through the veil. Amber sits by the fire, listening to stories from some of the more **** patrons. You smile. She was gathering information from the tongues that wagged the most. Clever girl.

You manage to slip into a separate room, little more than a shed really, and almost immediately tear your clothes off, fumbling with the belt tied round your thigh. You gasp in relief as the buckle comes undone and your twelve inch green cock springs upright.

What.
