The gym had a small selection of specialty machines and several rows of ellipticals and treadmills, with several rooms in the back for classes and groups sessions. Some scattered customers were jogging, a group of young men were lifting weights, and there was a yoga class in one of the rooms. Caroline scanned the area.

"Yoga class," she said curtly, and they walked to the back. The class was comprised of about twenty young people attempting a bridge pose. The instructor was walking between them, giving encouragement and advice to those struggling to maintain the pose. She looked up as they walked in.

"I'm sorry, if you want to join a class you'll have to- what are you doing?"

Caroline had begun pulling the drapes across the windows looking out onto the rest of the gym. "Take their ability to perceive us," she told Lisa. A second later the class was continuing as though nothing had happened.

Caroline, meanwhile, was walking up and down the rows like a shopper trying to find an obscure item in a grocery store. She paused by a woman with brilliant blue eyes. "Her eye color.
