Pleasant perception

The next couple days are amusing, as Yura seems to be smiling a lot more, something the other girls definitely notice. One day, Maya manages to corner the little selkie, and you happen to be in the room.

Maya grins at Yura. “You just can’t stop smiling! Did something happen?”

Yura shrugs. “Yes. I do not want to make a big deal of things, though.”

Yura glances at you as she speaks, and Maya looks at you questioningly. You chuckle, not getting involved. Maya looks back to Yura, who is blushing now. Maya’s eyes go wide in sudden realization.

Yura let’s out a startled “Eep!” As she’s suddenly snatched up into a hug. Maya giggles. “You’re pregnant, aren’t you?!”

Yura nods, and Maya hugs her tighter. “Yay! I’m so happy for you!”

Yura laughs as she’s lifted off her feet. It’s a musical sound, and one you wish you heard more often. Maya gently sets her back down and looks at you. “Our family keeps getting bigger! There’s going to be so many cute kids around.”

You smile. “I just need to do the work to make a good place for them to grow up.”

Maya smiles broadly. “You’ve already done that. No matter what happens in the next few months, you’ve made this world better, my Josh.”

She turns back to Yura, still smiling. “As for you, you sneaky selkie, I’m taking you to share your news with the rest of the girls!”

Yura smiles and waves to you as she’s dragged away by Maya. You wave back, chuckling. It’s good to see the normally taciturn young woman experience some joy. You go back to work, with a little extra spring in your step.
