Plead Her Case

"Please, Warden Ramshackle, you know me! You know that ah've brought in plenty of criminals who belong here, and you know that ah don't!" Texas pleaded to the familiar ram.

Ramshackle met Texas's eye and put a hand on her shoulder. "I can't deny you've brought in a lot of prisoners, Texas, but Mayor Vivian herself has put out the arrest record. There's nothing I can do about it, and frankly, I don't really care." She pulled her hand back as a grin crossed her muzzle. "You messed with the system, Tex. First rule of the law is living within it. Right and wrong don't matter so much as what is legal, and what isn't. You punched above your weight and the hammer came crashing down." The warden shook her head as she sat back down.

Texas's mouth opened and closed in shock to hear the plain admission from the Warden. She'd always tried to carry things out to the letter of the law, it wasn't her fault the law had been turned against her by the corrupt Vivian. She wanted to lay that all out, but she swallowed it down, **** it away for the sake of her case. "Come on, Ram. For all that I've done for the county, for this prison, can't you do anything?"

The warden tapped her fingers against the desk as she ran something in her head. After around ten seconds she finally gave a nod. "You know what? Maybe I can do something for you," she said with a nod of her head. The Mayor's goons looked at one another as if considering something when Ramshackle held up a finger. "If you do something for me."

There wasn't even a moment's hesitation as Texas nodded her head. "I can do it. Whatever you ask!" she said emphatically, seeing the tiniest glimmer of hope.

Warden Ramshackle leant back in her chair and opened her mouth to speak, but what would she ask of Texas?
