Chapter 4 by takacube takacube

What's in a color?

Pink's a fun color

Jim settled into his business-class seat, having made sure to put up his baggage except for the bag which contained his briefing notes and tablet, alongside some other papers he had picked up from the office earlier in the morning. Each of his notes were highlighted by his staff but, as he read them, he made some notes in the margin, taking some amusement from looking at how much better his words were compared to the staff he had. It had been a laugh trying to reconcile how people would comment that it appeared someone else had wrote his name on the travel documents but he just submitted them before heading off to the airport.

"If you need anything, please do not hesitate to let a flight attendant know," came the announcement over the overhead and he just smiled before settling back into his seat. It wasn't going to be a pleasant flight but the splurging he had done with his miles had been worth it. Of the airlines that were flying the route, he was lucky to see that All Nippon Airways had been a choice and he had opted to use his mileage for the Business Suite. Definitely a perk of the job, he was sure he could sweet-talk Marjorie in accounting to give him the difference.

After an hour, with the drinks out of the way, he pulled out the questionnaire and read the question again.

2.) IF YOU WERE A GIRL...WOULD YOU LIKE PINK?

Jim thought about that for a moment. On the one hand, gender stereotyping being the norm for infants, a lot of his clothes and stuff had blue on it and he was already drawn to blue (even today, his polo was a navy blue polo). Blue was comforting, too, as most of the FAs on the flight were wearing blue uniforms and scarves for the women. There were many other colors he found calming, relaxing, but blue had been the basis of his identification since birth.

So, his brain thought, it stood to reason that had he been born a girl, he would've been exposed to pink, be it a blanket or top or the various dolls that girls had which wore pink dresses and had pink accessories (like Barbie). God knows how much his sister Joanne had pink up the wazoo before she turned Goth and black became her thing. Even now, years out of it, pink had been banished to the nether realms.

Jim, though, wasn't a quitter.

He picked up his pen. I would love the color pink. It would not be the only color but I would love some aspect of pink being in my daily life. He laughed a little and clicked the pen again, failing to notice that the ink on the page had turned from black to a pinkish hue (maybe red if you weren't looking but definitely a darker pink under the cabin lights).

Hours later, after landing and getting through immigrations and baggage, Jim found the car from the local office waiting for him outside the terminal building. The driver, Shinji, greeted him with a firm handshake and motioned for him to hop into the back. "It'll be 2 hours before we get there, you should rest." Jim stepped into the back of the HiAce and moaned as his butt hit the back of the reclining chair. "Enjoy."

Fucker knew I would... he laughed and Jim looked at the quiz's next question before exhaustion overtook him.

3.) IF YOU WERE A GIRL...WOULD YOUR HAIR BE STRAIGHT OR CURLY?
