Pet's Lady Fair

Tommy and Nick have talked a lot about the relationship between Bailey and Sarah, and how that affects their relationship with Bailey. They've both agreed that they want to stay away from anything that might hurt Bailey or mess up her chance of happiness with Sarah. They've also realized they both want to keep seeing Pet, but how that can all work is a little beyond them at the moment. Now, with Tommy busy, Nick has the time to consider options. Sitting there on the couch, thinking, he decides maybe it's time to ask Bailey what she really wants to do, what she really has in mind. Taking a deep breath, he picks up his cell and calls her.

"Hey, Nicki," Bailey answers, cheerful. "Are you and Tommy okay?"

"Why does everyone start with that?" He laughs. "We're fine. I was actually calling to try to feel you out-"

"No, no, it's EAT me out," she jokes.

"I'd love to," he answers. "That's sort of why I'm calling. We haven't seen a lot of you recently."

"Yeah, we've been really busy," Bailey agrees. "Sarah and I have been running doubles at the hospital." She pauses. "And...well, we haven't really talked about...you guys."

"Yeah," he says. They're both quiet for a bit, both thinking what to say next. He tries to figure out what he means to say, what he wants to tell her.

It's actually Bailey who breaks the silence. "I don't want to ever hurt Sarah. I've loved her since we were kids."

"I know," Nick says, steeling himself for her to tell him they're done. "We're on the same page. Tommy and I really want to have you in our lives, but not bad enough to hurt you. We knew when Sarah came back into your life, there might be a time we had to say goodbye."

He hears Sarah's voice in the background, but not what she says. There's a moment where the phone is muffled, both girls talking, his mind running to all sorts of bad scenarios. Then there's sound again, and he can make out Bailey, no longer holding the phone, ask Sarah if she's sure.

"Hello, Nick," Sarah says, her tone putting him immediately at ease. It's clear she's not angry at all. "I'm sorry it's been so long, but we have been very busy."

"We knew you were," Nick answers. "I wasn't trying to go behind you."

She laughs loudly. "Believe me, I've figured that out. You and Tommy busy tomorrow night?"

"I wouldn't think so, no."

"Well, you are now." Sarah's turned conspiratorial. "I have a cunning plan. I'll text you details. I figured it's about time to blow our girls' minds."
