Perspective Shift: Flynn; Alone

A beam of sunlight through the inn’s window woke me, it’s annoying persistence difficult to ignore. I sat up in my bed, gripping my head in pain from my hangover after last night.

“...speaking of which, where is she?” I muttered to nobody in particular. Glancing around the room, I could find nothing that would even show I wasn’t alone last night. Guess she woke up first and left.

“Oh well. May as well get on over to the guild,” I muttered, climbing out of bed. I pulled my clothes on. They were still the ones I had gotten my first day here. They fit poorly, but did their job and didn’t get in the way. They had their fair share of battle scars too. I took the room key off the dresser and headed downstairs.

“Still no sign...” I muttered, heading up to the front desk. I placed the key on the counter. “Here.”

“Thank you for your patronage. Do come again,” said the innkeeper, bowing politely. I left the inn and headed towards the guild. Inside, I looked around, not seeing my party anywhere, so I went up to Anna’s desk.

“Hey Anna, have you seen my party?” I asked. She looked up from her paperwork.

“Hm? Oh, no I haven’t seen them since last night. Sorry, Flynn,” said Anna.

“Thanks anyway,” I said, heading out of the guild. “Where the hell are they?”

I decided to check around the places they might have gone to, so I started with the stables near the main gate where Flora was housing Hershel and the wagon. Sure enough, they were still there, but there was no sign of my party. Next I headed up to the upper quarter to see if they had gone back to the University. Sitting at the gate was a different guy than yesterday.

“Have you seen four adventurers come by?” I asked.

“Huh?” he groaned, looking up at me.

“They’re all girls. One’s a wizard with red hair, another’s a knight with blonde hair, then there’s a cleric with white hair, and a kinda plain looking girl with brown hair. Ring a bell?” I asked.

“Nope. Haven’t seen em. If they’re missing, why don’t you try the guard?” he said before going back to ignoring me.

“Thanks,” I said. Yeah, maybe Mia would know where they are. I headed off towards the guard barracks. When I got there, the sentry outside gave me a salute.

“Sir! The captain’s been waiting for you inside, sir!” he said.

“Huh? What do you mean? What’s going on?” I asked. A look of confusion spread across his face.

“Didn’t Jenkins tell you? Gah, that lazy brat! Sorry about that, sir, just head on inside, the captain can fill you in there.” He said, stepping aside. Slightly apprehensive, I entered the barrack.
