Personal Essentialism

"You sleep with me and then tell me I have a bad personality? Let's see how you like having no personality to speak of."

James didn't know what she meant. No personality? James felt that was...James thought he should feel annoyed, but he didn't. He didn't feel much of anything. He thought some more, and concluded that he should be worried, but there wasn't any emotion with that conclusion. His phone buzzed.

"Look in a mirror and tell me how you feel about your new look."

James read the text, and followed the directions. His brain said 'why?', but there was no **** behind the question. He simply did as he was told.

Looking in a mirror, James saw his new self for the first time. He looked completely nondescript. He had a face. Two eyes, a nose, a mouth, but there was nothing notable about them. He remembered his eyes having a color, but he couldn't see anything in particular looking in the mirror. Even his skin tone was, somehow, average and forgettable. He didn't seem like a person who did anything, he simply existed.

He texted Rebecca back. "I don't feel anything. I know I have changed. There is no emotion inside my head."

Rebecca responded, "I'd tell you to enjoy your new life, but I know that's impossible for you now. How about you just endure, and report back to me each day telling me just how much you've changed."
