It was the 6th April. I was in the New City passenger train, Anehazuru, on my way to a school I had transferred to with my twin sister Jane. I had just been woken up by the train's announcement.

"Due to a malfunction in the switching system, today's rail schedule has been greatly altered. We apologise for any customers who were in a hurry. The next stop is Iwatodai."

The train's audio system went silent and there was a loud groan swept through the car. As a result, the train ended up coming in late. After hours of waiting patiently, the tedious ride had come to an end.

"Iwatodai. This is the final train bound for Tatsumi Port Island. Please take care to board before our departure."

"We finally made it." Jane said.

I had arrived late. It was almost midnight. Barely a soul was commuting this late at night.

"We only have to walk a few blocks to the dorms." Jane said.

"Then, let's get going." I said.

I don't know how to put it into words, really. I'm not much of a writer. Something about the atmosphere seemed odd. It would probably be best to hurry to the dorm. As we walked from the station, I looked around to see coffin like objects lining in the deserted city. The moon was eerily gigantic tonight. I arrived at Gekkoukan High School, Iwatodai dorm. It was the dorm mentioned in the admission pamphlet. As I stepped I the heard a voice.

"Welcome," a boy my own age said. "You're late. I've been waiting a long time for you. Now if you want to proceed, please sign your name there."

The boy was behind a wooden desk, wearing prison styled pyjamas. He had an amused expression on his face. He gestured to the guestbook.

"It's a contract," he said.

There was a beat of silence before Jane stepped up first.

"Why do we need to sign if we're not staying at the dorm for long?" I questioned.

Once again, the boy was cryptic with his words and waved it off.

"Don't worry. All it says is that you'll accept full responsibly for your actions. You know, the usual stuff."

"It must a mandatory thing for all the student I guess." Jane said.

Something was written on the guestbook.

"I choseth this fate of mine own free will."

I barely skimmed over the contract. Below was a blank to sign my name in.

I wrote down "John".

The boy took the book and held it like it was his favourite teddy bear.

"Very well. No one can escape time. It delivers us all to the very same end," he stared at us with an unsetting grin. "You can't plug your ears and cover your eyes. And so it begins."

The boy disappeared as though he melted into the darkness.

"Well, that happened." Jane said.

"Who's there!?" I heard a female voice call to us, this time loud and commanding.

I saw a brunette girl in a school uniform and pink sweater walked into the room, standing as if she was about to attack us, "How can you be... But it's...! Don't tell me."

Before we could explain ourselves, the girl reached for her gun. Jane panicked and stepped up with his hands in the air.

"Hey, let's get take it easy!" she said. "There's no need for ****!"

The girl wasn't listening and had her hand on her holster.

"Wait!" said another girl, a redhead, sporting a scowl and a hand on his hip.

The lights came on.

"The lights," the first girl said.

"I didn't think you'd arrive so late," the redheaded girl told me. "My name is Mitsuru Kirijo. I'm one of the students who live in this dorm."

"It's a pleasure to meet you!" Jane said. "My name is Jane Doe. This is my brother John. He's the silent type. Don't get mad if he ignores you while listening to songs."

"What she said." I said.

The first girl lowered her guard but only enough to appear friendly, "Who're they?"

Mitsuru once again frowned by crossing her arms, obviously annoyed.

"They're a transfer studenst. It was a last minute decision to assign them here. They'll eventually be moved to rooms in the boys' and girls' dorm."

"Is it okay for him to be here?" Yukari questioned.

Were all the students at this school this weird?

"I guess we'll see." Mitsuru said.

Jane took matters into her own hand to dispel the lingering awkwardness, "What's your name?"

"This is Yukari Takeba." Mitsuru said.

"Hi, I'm Yukari." the brunette straightened up.

Why does Yukari have a gun? It is a toy? Is there some kinda toy gun fad around here? Maybe she's just a freak.

"Is this the girl's dorm?" I asked her.

"No, it's not but... um... How should I explain this?"

"Unlike the other buildings, this one's co-ed," Mitsuru explained. "It's your typical building though. I'll explain it to you later when I get a chance. It's getting late so you should get some rest. Your room is on the second floor, at the end of the hallway. Your things should already be there."

"Oh, I'll show you the way. Follow me." Yukari said.

Yukari took me to the furtherest door on the second floor hallway. Hopefully the transfer to the boys' dorm will go through soon enough. Don't get me wrong, I like girls but I was still unnerved by Yukari's gun.

"This is it. Pretty easy to remember, huh? Since it's right at the end of the hall," she said, gone was her earlier bravado.

She handed me a key, "Oh yeah, make sure you don't lose your key or you'll never hear the end of it. So, any questions?"

The one that was eating my mind was who exactly that guy with the contract was.

"Does that boy live here?" I asked.

Yukari was taken aback by this question.

"What boy? What are you talking about?" Yukari asked. "C'mon, it's not funny."

Yukari didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Now she thinks I'm crazy. I'm already off to a great start.

"Nevermind, forgot it." I said.

Yukari nodded but still remained, "Um, can I ask you something? On your way here from the station, was everything okay?"

Well, no, everything turned green and coffin-y but I couldn't tell her that when she already thinks I'm crazy so I played dumb.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You know what I... Nevermind. It seems like you're alright. Well, I'd better get going. Um... I'm sure you still have other questions but let's save them for later, okay? Good night."

Well, yeah, like that question about the whole gun thing but whatever. I didn't stay to wait Yukair leave.

I walked straight into my room, not even bothering to take in the scenery, and hit the sack pretty soon after. My suitcase was stockpiled by the door and officially made a problem for tomorrow. I figured I was just seeing things because I was tired. I had looked forward to be getting some sleep anyway. Tomorrow I'd see what my brand new school was like. I changed into my PJs and went to sleep.

What's next?
