“May God bless you, child,” Father Emilio said solemnly. Matching Isabella’s fierce gaze, he added, “To be perfectly frank, Isabella, the Path of Penance is challenging. Of the two choices, it’s easier, but will test your resolve like nothing else. I give you this one last opportunity to back out.”

“Father, may we say a prayer while I consider?” Isabella asked, hands clutched subserviently on top of her lap.

“Always, my child,” Father Emilio granted. They then launched into the Apostle’s Creed. When they finished, Father Emilio looked expectantly at Isabella.

“Daddy didn’t raise a quitter. I’ve never been afraid of work, and besides, cowardice today could endanger my immortal soul. No, Father. I am committed,” Isabella crossed her arms in affirmation of her strong stance.

“Good. Keep that moxy, child. Lord knows you shall need it on the path,” Father Emilio congratulated Isabella.

“Thank you, Father. May I ask now what the Path entails?” Isabella asked, a slight hint of anxiety present in the forward slump of her shoulders.

“Of course, Isabella. The Path of Penance is going to provide consequences for your actions. Forgive my forwardness, but God created you with His beauty in mind. Even when you dress in conservative clothes, as you are now, any male is going to be attracted to you,” Father Emilio said calmly and cautiously, so as not to spook her. Isabella blushed and coquettishly nodded her agreement with the statement. After allowing Isabella to come to terms with the compliment, Father Emilio continued, “As such, the Path of Penance is about punishing negative behavior. We mortals are born with Eve’s sin firmly stamped upon our soul. No matter how we try, even the staunchest monk and the holiest nun still have urges. The Path of Penance is designed to reinforce good behavior and provide Earthly punishment for your transgressions. What will happen is when you have an impure thought, you will text me. Depending on the severity of your transgression, I shall set and sometimes administer your punishment. This will serve as both a moment of reflection and provide negative reinforcement.”

Isabella gulped. This was certainly more intense than she had initially envisioned. She looked down and quietly asked, “What sort of punishment are we talking about?”

“I’m glad you asked, my child. Would you follow me inside the Church? I believe a physical demonstration is in order,” the silver-haired priest offered a hand to Isabelle, and they walked in silence into the church. Down a hidden stairwell, and they entered a monkish abode. A portrait of Jesus looked over a single bed and a lone wooden wardrobe. Father Emilio calmly sat down on the bed and looked up at Isabella with a critical eye.

“Isabella, this is the first test in the path,” Father Emilio reached over and grabbed the bible on the nightstand and put his right hand on it. Without prompting, he mentioned, “I promise to you as a servant of the Lord, what I ask is not meant to be taken in a lewd manner. Whenever we enter this room, I mean only to correct your behavior.”

Isabella, perplexed at the turn of events, simply said, “OK.”

“Now, I’m sorry to say this, but masturbation is staunchly against church doctrine. So, we must start with your first punishment. According to the doctrine I learned the path from, that requires ten spanks upon your bare tush,” Father Emilio coughed gently into his hand at the word tush.
