Pearl quickly finds herself adapting to Thyst's life.

Normally, Pearl would have responded to concern with a kind smile and an excuse to brush off any worry about her, it was the way Pearls were trained to react to conflict: deflect through politeness and etiquette. Instead, despite it not being what she was trying to do, Pearl found herself shrugging casually and replying, "Eh, just thinking about junk." Then she started walking again, picking up the pace to rejoin the group, and found herself walking by Peridot's side.

Trying not to think about how differently she was acting, Pearl listened to Amy and Peridot talking, marveling at how odd it was so see both from a similar height, to see the world in general from such a low point of view. But slowly that wonder faded away. Instead, she became more interested in the argument the two gems near her were having. Peridot was trying to explain the plot of some episode of a human television program, but Amy was interrupting her with inane questions and comments at every turn. Before, Pearl may have been confused as to why Amy was acting this way, but Thyst understood that it was a joke to rile up Peridot. Unable to stop herself, Thyst joined in and it became even more hilarious. Pearl didn't laugh very often, but Thyst it seemed would chortle at nearly anything, and she couldn't deny it was fun. Living in the moment was almost addicting, compared to how before her head was always in the clouds.
