Chapter 4 by ShyValkyre ShyValkyre

Negotiate or Pay?

Pay 800 Epics

“Ah...O-Okay...” Raanciel mumbled, his voice flat with defeat. He would definitely not be able to sleep at the inn now. He dug out his money pouch from under his belt and opened it. “You...You accept Daegician purples right?” He looked up at Haiz to see the drake with his eyebrows raised in an expression akin to surprise.

“Uh...yeah...” Haiz made a quick glance at Navi who glared at him. Both Navi and Haiz watched the smaller drake slowly and shakily count coins from his money pouch.

“500.” Navi suddenly said. Raanciel paused in his counting and looked at Navi, as did Haiz.

“What?” Haiz asked.

“He’ll pay 500 like I promised him. You can take the other 400 out of my share of the cargo drop I made in Covoles,” Navi said.

“Fine,” Haiz said with a shrug. “500 Epics.”

“A-Ah...O-Okay...” Raanciel stuttered. He counted 2 purple coins, 4 blue coins, and 4 gold coins. “Here.” Raanciel held out the handful of coins and Haiz plucked it from him with a huff.

“Daegician purples, huh?” Haiz scoffed. “Whatever. Get out.” Haiz turned and walked away. “No more fucking cabbing drakes or I’ll have you thrown in the Void-Walker dungeons!” He threw over his shoulder before he disappeared behind a door to the left.

Raanciel looked up at Navi. “Y-You didn’t have to do that...” Raanciel said. Navi shrugged.

“A promise is a promise. I never go back on my word,” Navi said.

“B-But-!” Raanciel was cut off by Navi raising his hand and shaking his head.

“Don’t mention it, Raanciel. It’s fine.” Navi grinned. He tapped the shorter on the nose, his grin widening. “If you’re worried about paying me back, Epics aren’t what I want. You can accompany me for a drink at the Burning Lady as payment, yeah?”

Raanciel smiled. “Yeah...I can do that.”

“Sorry about Haiz. My friend was raised with skietz- uh...sorry....” Navi rubbed the back of his neck with a nervous chuckle.

“I’m not a Royal drake,” Raanciel said with a shake of his head. “Don’t worry about it.”

Navi took a deep breath. “Honestly, Haiz is a nice guy. We’ve been friends for years,” Navi said with a grin. Raanciel frowned.

“He called you dracolisk...some friend,” Raanciel mumbled. Navi shrugged.

“Now how about that drink?” Navi asked, gesturing towards the open barn door. “I’ll show you to the tavern.”

To the Burning Lady
