Chapter 9 by hewhoismany hewhoismany

How is Jed doing?

Paula finds that Jed is okay, but the coin activated on someone else.

As Paula entered the grocery store, doing her best to forget what she'd just done and absently grabbing a mint from her purse to hide the olfactory evidence, she walked up to one of the nearest cashiers, a coworker of Jed's she vaguely knew named Crystal. Between checking out customers, Crystal recognized Paula and said Jed was taking his break upstairs. She didn't comment on Paula's change in attire and general demeanor, but as Paula hurried off to see Jed her cheeks were burning with embarrassment as she knew that's what the girl had been thinking.

The break room for the grocery store was on the second floor, with a table, a few couches, and a television that mostly picked up static. Jed was the only one in the room at the time, sitting at the table and staring at his silver coin. His eyes drifted up to meet Paula's as she entered, and he quickly got up so they could embrace. Then he looked down, puzzled. "Don't tell me: your coin does something weird too?" Rather than go into the sordid details, Paula just blushed and nodded, though her happiness at seeing Jed, unchanged, was palpable. "Well, our coins have to work differently, because I still remember how you used to look. Earlier, I was talking about my manager, Diana, you remember her right?" Paula nodded, able to picture the young woman who was Jed's direct boss, despite being younger than him. "You're thinking that she's a girl in her twenties, right?" Paula nodded, confused. "Earlier today, she was..."

How had she changed?
