Chapter 2 by SG SG

Whose normal day should we follow?

Paul and Eileen, two very different people.

Eileen first noticed something was off when Paul thanked her for asking him to make coffee.

They were enjoying a lazy Saturday morning in bed, Paul on his phone and Eileen with her nose buried in a trashy Western. She suddenly had a craving for a fresh cup of coffee, but she was so cozy under the blankets...

"Paul?" she asked gently. "Would you please make a pot of coffee?"

He stared at her very strangely for a second, then broke into a half-smile. "Aw, thanks," he said with a peck on the cheek. He hopped out of bed and shuffled into the kitchen.

Eileen cringed. Of course he had been brusque and a little mean - that was normal for him. The weirdest thing was him thanking her.

"What are you thanking me for?" she asked.

Paul grinned, his mood clearly worsening. Typical. "For asking me to make coffee! You are so sweet to me."

She ignored his aggressive negativity. "Why? I asked you for a favor."

"Stop, you're making me blush!" he laughed. He was reacting to everything she did like it was an act of kindness. She decided to test the waters.

"Hey, Paul," she said. "Could you load the dishwasher while you're up?"

Paul looked ambivalent for a moment. "It's so kind of you to ask, but I'm kind of tired. Raincheck?"

Eileen just sighed at Paul's rude, dismissive tone.

Paul first noticed something was off when Eileen ignored his gratitude.

They were hanging around idly, Eileen reading some trash while Paul caught up on emails. He was only half-listening when she suddenly over and said something.

Paul paused, his train of thought interrupted, What did she say? Coffee? She wanted him to make coffee? Of course she did. As usual, Eileen was being completely selfless.

"Aw, thanks," he said as he kissed her cheek. He wasn't normally a morning person but his wife's kindness helped. She even cringed for him!

"What are you thanking me for?" she asked.

Paul couldn't help but smile at her kind words. "For asking me to make coffee! You are so sweet to me."

"Why?" she demanded, and Paul thought his heart would melt. "I asked you for a favor."

He was suddenly overcome with gratitude for his incredible wife. "Stop, you're making me blush!" She didn't seem to even register his gratitude as she thought for a moment.

"Hey, Paul," she said. "Could you load the dishwasher while you're up?"

Paul looked down uncomfortably. It was so nice of her to ask, but he was really enjoying his time in bed.. "It's so kind of you to ask," he said regretfully, "but I'm kind of tired. Raincheck?"

Eileen sighed encouragingly. It was a good sign.

Who do we follow?
