When the exams finally came around, we had been much too busy playing all our games to do well. I had always been a good student of A’s and B’s, but dropped to enough C’s to make my graduation uncertain until the last moment.

Emily wasn’t so lucky. Serving me required a big effort and studying had suffered. Two D’s torpedoed her. She’d have to spend another year in high school.

Summer vacation started for both of us, anyway. No more school. I took her to the quarry one more time. I only fucked her briefly, then we sat side by side at the cliff above the lake, and stared in the distance. The elephant was with us, but we pretended not to notice. It was impossible. An extra year for her, while I was supposed to go to college now. Separated when we were only starting find our way into the new dimensions of our relationship.

We didn’t speak for half an hour, watching the sun set behind distant trees. Still that black, massive ball of reality hung on between us. We didn’t need to speak to feel its presence, and to respond to it. Gloom, fear, yearning. Misery. Failure. Defeat.

When it was getting dark, I got up and reached out for her with my hand to help her up. She didn’t take my hand, though, and said, ”There may still be a solution, Jason.”

“What kind of solution? I shouldn’t have played you so hard. I should have allowed you to study, so we could both leave this down together and move to the ranch and I’m really sorry about that, Emily. I was so shortsighted, thinking about now and not about the future. And now we will both have to suffer from it. I could bang my head into a wall, that’s how stupid I have been.“

“Don’t blame yourself, I have done this to myself in every way. And it was a great thing to do. I have discovered myself, and I could never have done it without you. What does a stupid thing like a diploma matter, compared to that? “

“Well, it matters. I’m supposed to leave here. And you’re supposed to stay another year. “

“And what if I don’t do what I’m supposed to do? “

I shrugged, “I don’t know. You have to. That’s how it works. “

“No it doesn’t. I’m an adult now. I could drop out of school and follow you. “

“You couldn’t. You would throw away your future without even a high school diploma. “

“Now which future exactly is that, Jason? The one where I study and go to colleges and universities and build a shining careers and make lots of money? “

She looked at me with a twinkle of irony in her eye. When I didn’t speak, she continued:“Do I have to spell it out for you, Jason? That is not the future that I want. I want to be with you and serve you and be your obedient wife. And tell me, do I need a university degree for that? “

“Heck no. No high school diploma either.”

“Exactly. When we need money, you can send me out to work as a waitress or a cleaner of toilet pots. Heck I’ll whore for you. If just want to be with you, and I don’t want to learn mathematics and English, I only want to learn about serving you in the best way that I can. And I won’t learn that in school, I will only learn it when we return to the Ranch.”

“I cannot ask you to do that. What if we grow tired of each other, what if we split up, you won’t have any prospects… “

“I don’t believe that will happen, Jason. But even when it does, I will appreciate every second you gave me Before that breakup happened. I will probably remember them as the best days of my life and I will be happy remembering them, even if it means I will have to wait at tables for the rest of my life because I have no diploma. “

She looked me in the eye, and continued: “So don’t think of it as you asking me. Think of it, as me requesting you. Please take me, Jason. Take me into the depravity that we’re destined for. Possess me, own me. I’m yours. All you have to do is tell me.”

I reached out and embraced her, “Then I tell you now. Follow me, obey me, please me. It will be one wild ride. And I’ll give you every inch of joy from it!”

“I know, Jason. It is like sailing off into the sunset right at the start of the story, when all the adventure is only about to begin.”

Two weeks later, we were packed and sacked for the journey. She had fought bitter battles with her parents, but in the end, there was nothing they could do, she was her own woman now. Of course, they still embraced her at the station, and shoved a bit of extra money in her pocket when we boarded the train to take us to Howard’s place. They thought I was going there for social studies, and somehow Emily couldn’t be without me in some kind of magic spell. Little did they know that my social studies would only be a front. I was about to start grooming my wife.
