Chapter 13 by Daylan Daylan

So Then... Onward?

Onward!

Despite the late night, the next morning sees you up bright and early, a smile on your lips as you hum to yourself and enjoy the still lingering throb in your loins from the pleasures you took. As you stand on the hill overlooking your small town you adjust your jacket and cap, unclip the Pokeball from your belt and pop it open, allowing Charmy to appear by your side. "Take a look, Charmy," you say, "This is where we've been living our lives... but now it's time to see the world!"

"Vee!" Charmy chirps happily, circling around your feet a few times before you return the Eevee to its Pokeball (seriously, you should probably check its gender at some point but your mind is currently on other things) and then step into the tall grass that covers the pathway towards Veridian City.

As you walk, your mind is on three things. The first is the question of what Pokemon you should try to capture for your team. Do you want to try and stick to some kind of theme or type or will you just catch whatever is handy? You knew that most Trainers recommended having something that could swim and something that could fly to help complete the journey around the League. You'd have to see what struck your fancy as you went along.

The second question is if you should challenge the Gym at Veridian City when you get there. What little information about it you read online suggested it to be one of the tougher Gyms with a Leader that liked to keep his identity hidden. Many guides you'd read suggested going past Veridian and taking on the Pewter Gym first, which was considered much weaker despite the Leader using Rock-Type Pokemon.

The third question was that even if Pallet Town was considered the boonies, did nobody consider that maybe the one major roadway between it and the next town over SHOULDN'T be overrun with tall grass everywhere? But then, your studying had implied that this was a problem between all major towns and cities, so maybe there was something more complicated going on you didn't really know about yet.

However, there was also opportunity in the tall grasses for a Trainer and, given the sounds you were hearing ahead of you, one of those opportunities was about to present itself.

You part the patch of grass in front of you and spread it open, your eyes widening as you see two Pokemon fighting each other. One is a Pidgy, the well known Flying-Type Pokemon that tends to be everywhere around Kanto. Across from it is the more gruff, spiky-looking Flying-Type known as Spearow. Strange, you'd always heard that their migratory patterns meant either one or the other was in an area at any given time.

Whatever the reason the two were in the same place at the same time, neither of them seemed happy about it, given how violently they're going at it. The Pidgy is using its superior agility to flit around the Spearow, smacking at it in passing with mid-air tackles. The Spearow, for its part, is showing an almost admirable dogged determination, taking the blows and waiting for the right opportunity to respond with a strong pecking attack.

As you watch, an idea forms in your head and you summon Charmy from its Pokeball, kneeling down and whispering to the Eevee, "Charmy, we're gonna try to capture one of them. They're weakening each other for now, which will make it easier, but if they keep fighting like this for too long they might kill each other!"

While you'll admit that does sound a little like trying to rationalize a sneak attack like this to yourself and your Pokemon, you're still determined to carry it out. Of course, since the other will probably fly off once a third party interjects itself, the question then becomes... which of these Pokemon do you try for?

So Who's Your First Capture Attempt?
