One thing at a time

I’ve never been accused of being graceful in awkward situations. My go-to move has always been to make bad jokes that, more often than not, tend to make things more uncomfortable. It would seem that I was in rare form today.

“Girlfriend and harem member, huh? So just a small favor then?” I thought I kept the levity in my voice and a smile on my face, but based on how Farah’s face fell, I knew I hadn’t succeeded.

“I...I need to go. This was so stupid…” she mumbled as she turned and began moving for the door, “I’m sorry John, I’ll go talk to the hall director right now and see if any rooms opened up.”

Before she got outside of reach, I grabbed her arm, and pulled her towards me, causing her to spin and land astride me on the couch, her face inches away from mine, “Farah, you have to know by now that the very last thing I would want is to lose you as a roommate. I might have been a bit flippant just now, but you have got to admit, it was a big request. Look, like I said, I’ve had a huge crush on your quite a while. Let’s take this one step at a time.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you asked if was game for you to become my girlfriend and harem member, right? Let’s start with the girlfriend bit, and go from there.” Then, before she had a chance to respond, I pulled her lips to mine and kissed her with all the passion I’d tried to hide since she moved in.

Initially, Farah was surprised and rigid, but very quickly she threw her arms around me and simply melted into the kiss.
