One New Message

Emma headed back to Jake's room, intending to grab her purse and possibly head back to town. Small as it was, she was sure there had to be more to it than just main street, and she figured exploring would kill time.

The chirp from her phone stopped her in her tracks. Picking the phone up, she noticed she had a new text message from an unknown number. Opening the message, thinking that her friends were leaving her pretty much alone since they knew she was away, her curiosity ran wild.

The message simply asked, How r u feeling?

Were they asking because they knew she lost her parents, or was it from one of the boys last night, knowing she would be a bit hungover? Emma ignored the question and replied with one of her own.

Who is this?

She waited a moment or two, then the phone chimed. It was from Ian, saying as much.

The two exchanged messages for several minutes, Ian explaining how he had to get Jenny's number from Craig, then Emma's number from her.

Emma found it cute that a boy would go through all that after a night of partying just to get a hold of her. After several more minutes of them joking about the night before, and complaining about how they felt. Ian asked if she wanted to do something.

Emma's heart raced. It had been a good while since a boy asked her out. She had plenty of guys that hit on her at a bar, but someone wanting to hang out, sober, was totally different. Suddenly she was full of girlie concerns about her hair, and outfit, and if she looked OK since she was still recovering from a night of partying.
