Chapter 24 by Mythen Oakhier Mythen Oakhier

Time to get going.

On the way to making a decision

He just watched his mother leave, stunned by what had just happened and by the fact that his body had reacted the way it did. He shook his head to try and clear away the perverted fantasies that seemed to be assailing his mind. Surprisingly, there was no comment from his new goddess about them. Now left achingly erect, he looked over and saw that despite the short conversation time had flown by, leaving him hurrying for the bus.

In his rush, he forgot the book that popped a mysterious skill that had been left to him by his grandfather. He hadn’t taken the time to look at it closely, so he didn’t know what it did. But it would be there when he got back from school.

John had made it to the bus stop just as the bus was pulling to a stop. Slightly out of breath, John climbed the stairs of the bus and made his way to an open seat; surprisingly, no one tried to trip him. When he saw that Rowena wasn’t on the bus yet, he opened his character sheet and began looking it over. His first focus was on his stats. He knew that he had levelled up a couple of times so far, but his stats hadn’t seemed to change. Then he noticed the points underneath.

‘Now how do I use those?’ John wondered to himself before he touched on the strength icon. John watched in wonder as the number that represented his strength went up one point. He frowned shortly afterwards when he didn’t feel a noticeable increase in strength. He also didn’t see any way to take the point back. He tried pressing all around the strength indicator, but nothing happened. He tried double tapping on the strength indicator, only to accidentally put two more points into strength.

”I have to find some way to talk to the game developer,’ John thought glumly, then brightened as he watched Rowena get on the bus. He waved her over, inviting her to take a seat next to him. She smiled and waved back as if he were waving hello as she made her way down the aisle. For a moment, John panicked, thinking that she was going to act like she didn’t recognize him and she was going to ignore him.

A fear that proved to be untrue when she plopped her delightfully slender ass down in the seat next to him. She smiled at him just as they heard the Queen Bitch herself call out.

“Would you look at that,” Vanessa said aloud, drawing the attention of everyone towards her; “It seems as if Teeny Weanie has gotten himself a friend.” The bus burst out in laughter at the comment, but this time John could hear that more than a few of the people laughing were doing so forcibly. When John looked at them with Observe, he noted that the ones that were fakely laughing were the ones that had a positive relationship score with him.

“Everyone shut up and sit down!” the bus driver yelled from the front, “And if you make any more trouble, Miss Hawthorne, I will throw you off this bus.”
Everyone immediately was quiet and turned to see the bus driver. He had been so wrapped up in his own problems that John had failed to notice that it was a new bus driver today. Frowning, John used Observe on the new man.

John closed his menu before digging around in his uniform’s pockets. Finally finding what he was looking for, he held up the card that the Barbarian had given him a couple of days ago. He looked over the information to find the last name, before he looked back up at the bus driver.

“Hey do you know a guy that goes by the Barbarian?” John asked as he turned back towards Rowena. She nodded with a confused look upon her face. “Well, I think that his brother is currently driving our bus,” John said with a gulp.

Rowena raised an eyebrow at his comment and cast a glance up to the front of the bus were the driver sat grumbling about spoiled rich kids and how they thought everything should go their way. “I don’t get what you are so worried about,” she stated in response to John’s slight paling.

Before John could answer her comment, Vanessa decided that she didn’t like being told what to do by this nobody bus driver. She had stewed long enough and had now risen to standing.

“Listen here, you piece of shit commoner,” Vanessa began as she made her way slowly to the front, drawing the attention of everyone on the bus as she did so. “You think that you can order me around?! I will have you fired and make sure that you will never be able to get work. I will have you drawn and quartered!” She was working up a full head of steam as she stormed up aisle.

The bus jerked violently as the bus driver, Peter, turned around in his seat. “I said sit down, you arrogant little cunt! You think that you can threaten me? I have seen people flayed alive,” Peter yelled at her as he drove facing the wrong way in the seat, the bus jerking from side to side because of his erratic control.

John got a pop up and took his eyes off of the pending fight to take a look at it.

Stay safe, you little beta tester, I ain’t done with you yet.

John didn’t have long to guess at what the message meant before a sudden pain struck his head. His hand instinctively clenched around his head trying futilely to stop the pain.

A shout by Vanessa drew his pain filled attention up, just in time to see a truck come barreling towards their bus. “GET DOWN!” John shouted, throwing himself over Rowena in an attempt to protect her from the impact.

There was a loud crunch as their bus was struck, followed by lots of screaming and things going flying. John did his best to hold on to the seats as he covered Rowena with his body. Suddenly, the bus was spinning, like the driver was doing a Star Fox barrel roll. From the corner of his eye, he watched as Vanessa, who hadn’t listened and had been standing when the bus was struck, go bouncing around the front of the bus as it rolled over and over. He watched, to his private satisfaction, and shame, as she impacted on one of the seats and her neck snapped, killing the Bitch Queen of Ashford with a crunch.

Fate, though, decided that she deserved one more parting shot at John, and all he could do was watch as her now lifeless body ragdolled through the air, her head crashing into his before her body bounced away. That was the last thing that John saw before the darkness overtook him.

Did.... Did he just die?
