Chapter 47 by Drakavius Drakavius

Whom Do We Follow?

Omar and Andrew

Omar and Andrew lurked amongst the architectural wonders in the gardens.

Cornerstones, headstones, columns, statues. Even whole facades from a couple buildings were scattered across the gardens, salvaged from assorted old buildings long replaced by sky scrapers.

Omar was feeling absolutely giddy, delighting in the anticipation of the horror he was about to help unleash. Sinking his claws firmly into the dewy grass his ears laid flat as the panicked breathing and doors crashing open reverberated through his very being.

Andrew meanwhile lay flat along a head trimming the main walkways down from the event hall doors to the gardens, he was careful to try to blend his height with the shadows of the bushes, read to sprint across the paths of what ever souls tried to dart back to the building.

Hearing a fire door behind him and a few scrambled steps Andrew fought the urge to chase whoever exited behind him, the six or seven guests trying to orient themselves before fleeing into the darkness in pursuit of the escape they failed to see was evading them.

Andrew froze in fear, not for himself, but the quarry he and Omar were about to ambush. The footstep stalled just behind him on the path, a half taken breath… Andrew thought about where to lunge. Cut off the path to the building blocking any others trailing behind and scattering the argumentative crowd. Or maybe turning on whoever happened along behind him.

The voices grew more distressed and impatient, Andrew grinned slightly, hearing a slow, cautious step withdraw from his area.

Good human, think of yourself. Don't raise the alarm. Andrew thought. Eager to chase that one down later and reward her for being selfish. For thinking she could maybe get away by not alerting others.

Andrew tensed as a cell phone smashed off a column, two siblings were arguing which way to go.

One man turned back as he began to charge off into the darkness. “The quickest, shortest, and least exposed way is straight through there.” Arm outstretched, he let quiet prevail over the shouting match that had emerged, disturbing sounds of panic and sexual pleasure seeming to echo all around, reinforcing the man's argument they couldn't waste time going around if they were to escape.

He half cursed his carelessly casting his cell away in frustration, the strangely unlit garden's darkness enveloping his senses, his eyes darting to define abstract shadows as he and the other wandered towards the shadowy monolith of the trees.

Sasha breathed heavily as she creeped on a tangent away from the group. She had only by fluke not been in the ballroom when the chaos erupted, having literally just got back from a car parked in the underground she quit searching for her car in a panic and exited from one of the stairs up.

She was relieved to see the hulking shadowy beasts following the group, a couple cell phone flashlights starting to turn on as they approached the tree line.

Maybe they'd be ok, Sasha thought. Guilt tugged at her for not raising an alarm, as she broke into a slight run to the trees.

Cara turned her head the instant she heard the scream.

She barely saw what it was. The hulking shadow lunged towards the flashlight that had illuminated its stalking and the chase was formally on.

Cara bolted with her brother straight in the direction they had been walking, oblivious to if anyone else was even still with them.

Behind them one woman cried out in pain, the wrist she had held her phone with broken by a quick bite.

During the same lunge two men had been toppled by claws rending through their calves.

Andrew made quick work of pulling the trio together, whimpers of pain slowly interspersing with groans of desire as his strikes catalyzed the corruption within the three people he had toppled. Ripping the woman's dress open to the night he began to lick down her slender form, eager to see her corruption manifest.
