Chapter 3 by synnworld synnworld

What's next?

Oh no, oh no, oh no

Current gold - 225

You wake up the following day and pull yourself out of bed. To make what little gold you have stretch, you choose a cheap inn to stay in for the night. The room is dingy, with cracks in the walls and a musty smell that permeates the air. The bed was uncomfortable, but it was better than sleeping outside.

You gather your meager belongings: your precious spellbook, a change of clothing, and your sack of gold. As you exit your dingy room and head downstairs, your thoughts are occupied by the guild girl's parting words: "If you want a chance with me, become an A rank and have 20,000 gold." You need a plan to build wealth and rank up, but first, you must return to the guild to receive your guild card.

You descend the creaky stairs of the inn, the wooden steps groaning under your weight. The innkeeper, a grizzled old man with a permanent scowl etched into his face, gives you a curt nod as you pass by. The common room is sparsely populated, with a few patrons nursing mugs of ale even at this early hour.

As you enter the bustling morning streets, the city greets you with its chaotic energy. Market vendors shout their wares, children run through the streets, and the smell of freshly baked bread mingles with the scent of horse manure. You pull your cloak tighter around you, shielding yourself from the morning chill.

The guild hall is just a short walk from the inn. As you step inside, you notice it is as empty as yesterday, except the three nonhuman beauties are gone this time. The main lobby is mainly filled with men. A few are gathered around the notice boards, while the rest linger near the bar, occasionally casting glances towards the counter where the blonde beauty usually stands. However, she is currently nowhere to be seen.

You approach the counter and notice the door on the back wall is ajar. Initially, you ignore it and turn away, but strange noises draw your attention back.

"Ahhh... j.. l..e ... y.. s..t."

Curiosity piqued, you strain to listen more closely, trying to decipher the sounds coming from the other side.

As you get closer, you begin to make more distinct sounds—wet and slurping noises mingled with faint, moaning noises. The chatter of the handful of guild members nearby makes it harder to discern exactly what's happening.

Pressed against the counter, you lean forward even more, straining to hear. Suddenly, a hand clamps down on your shoulder, startling you.

"Hey, you! I've never seen you before. What are you doing here?" a voice demands from behind you.

Startled, you spin around to face the source of the voice. Standing behind you is a tall, muscular fighter in plated armor. His eyes narrow suspiciously, and his grip on your shoulder tightens.

"I hope you aren't trying to jump the line. You have to wait your turn like everyone else," he said.

"Wait, my turn? What do you mean? I'm new," you reply, trying to regain your composure. "I was just coming to pick up my guild card."

The man's expression changes slightly, raising a single brow. "New, huh? Well, you'll have to wait about two or three hours. The receptionist is busy with some of the higher-ranking adventurers right now," he says.

"Ahhh," you hear a new set of sounds behind you, followed by the slapping of wet flesh.

"Why don't you go take a newbie quest? No one will blame you for not having your guild card just yet," the warrior says, putting his arm around you and dragging you to the noticeboard.

As the warrior guides you to the notice board, your mind races with thoughts of the sounds you heard and the currently missing guild girl. Your eyes scan the various quests posted on the board, ranging from simple tasks like gathering herbs to more dangerous missions involving monsters and bandits.

The warrior points to a few quests suitable for beginners. "These should be doable for someone just starting out. If you complete a few of these, you can build up some gold and reputation," he advises.

You glance at the options:

1. Herb Gathering in the Whispering Woods: Reward - 50 gold

2. Lost Pet in the Market District: Reward - 30 gold

3. Kill Rats in the Tavern Cellar: Reward - 100 gold

As you look over the choices the warrior is pointing out, you silently groan in frustration at the low-paying jobs. The warrior seems to ignore your reaction and gives you a gentle pat on the back. "Good luck, newbie. Looks like it's my turn," he says before walking back towards the receptionist's desk.

You turn back, confused but surprised to finally see the object of your newfound fascination. Yet she looks different from yesterday. Her lips are wet and glossy, and her once neat hair is now messy and disheveled with loose strands. Her face is flushed, and sweat stains her body and ruffled clothing. Her gestures are hypnotically erotic as she stands submissively before the warrior who was just speaking with you. Without a word, she turns and walks back into the backroom with him, and he closes the door behind them.

You stand there, bewildered by what you just witnessed. After a minute of trying to piece together what the higher-ranking guild members might be doing in the backroom, you snap out of it, realizing that standing around won't bring you any closer to your goals.

You scan the notice board again and notice a bandit-killing quest offering a thousand gold. However, it's a D-rank quest, two ranks higher than your current F-rank. Without hesitation, you snatch the quest paper and stride toward the guild exit, determined to prove yourself.
