Chapter 35 by amitrcc

What's next?

Offer her your button-up shirt and find the lab coat for her to wear as makeshift clothing

Without hesitation, you begin unbuttoning your shirt. "Here," you say, slipping it off your shoulders. "Take this for now." The cotton fabric is still warm from your body as you hand it to Lina.

She accepts it gratefully, her fingers brushing against yours in the exchange. "Thanks," she murmurs, quickly slipping her arms through the sleeves. The shirt hangs loosely on her smaller frame, the hem falling to mid-thigh. She fastens the buttons with nimble fingers, starting from the bottom. The fabric clings to the subtle curves of her breasts, her nipples visible through the thin material.

"Let me find something else," you say, already moving toward the door where a white lab coat hangs on a hook. You retrieve it, holding it open for her. "This should help too."

Lina turns, sliding her arms into the sleeves of the lab coat. As she adjusts it over her shoulders, you catch the scent of her—something delicate and feminine beneath the sterile laboratory smells. The coat fits her better than you expected, though still clearly oversized. She rolls the sleeves up several times until her hands emerge.

"Not exactly high fashion," she says with a wry smile, looking down at herself. Your button-up shirt peeks out beneath the white coat, and her bare legs extend from beneath the hem. "But definitely better than explaining to campus security why I'm naked in your lab."

You find yourself suddenly aware of your own bare chest, the cool air of the laboratory raising goosebumps across your skin. Lina's eyes flicker briefly to your exposed torso before returning to your face.

"The compound really is affecting me strangely," she says, leaning against a lab bench. "When I used my telepathy just now... it was like I could feel their thoughts as physical sensations." She presses her thighs together unconsciously. "I've never experienced anything like that before."

"Side effects I couldn't have predicted," you say, trying to maintain scientific detachment despite the intimate nature of her revelation. "The molecular structure was designed to protect your diamond form, but clearly it's having neurological impacts as well."

"It's not... unpleasant," she admits, color rising in her cheeks. "Just unexpected. And potentially distracting."

She glances at the clock on the wall. It's just past 2:10 p.m.—nearly six hours until Marco's meeting at the Rooftop Greenhouse.

"We can't stay here indefinitely," she says, practical despite her unusual attire. "Those guards might come back with others if they notice anything suspicious. And we need to prepare for tonight."

She pushes a strand of dark hair behind her ear—a gesture so reminiscent of Jane that it makes your heart clench. The similarities between the twins are uncanny, yet there are subtle differences in how they carry themselves. Where Jane was gentle inquiry, Lina is focused determination.

"We should go somewhere safer," she continues. "Somewhere private where I can test these new... enhancements without interruption." She looks at you, a question in her eyes. "Your place maybe? It's not on Marco's radar, and I doubt Viktor would have had time to discover where you live."

The prospect of taking Lina to your apartment—Jane's sister, wearing nothing but your shirt and a lab coat—fills you with a complex mixture of emotions. But she's right—you need somewhere secure to plan the final **** on Marco.
