Chapter 5 by FlightoftheBeers FlightoftheBeers

What's next?

Off to work

You wished you could stay and relax with Tegan. She'd already made fast-friends with some of the staff and other guests. Maybe she felt more open here since it was far from home. Either way, you were happy for her. You hadn't exactly told her everything about what Dani offered you, but you did give some generalities.

You stood in the conference hall as you waited for your group. Everyone had been sorted into classes of cohorts to go throughout the conference with. But as everyone's group seemed to fill up, no one joined you. At least, until someone did.

Of course it was her. "Good morning, Mr. Doe. I went and took the liberty of personally taking you under my care and walking you through the conference. After all, I am the one running it," she gave you a knowing smile.

"So... What?" You looked around. "Are you going to stonewall me from doing anything unless I do what you want?" You were starting to get frustrated with her. This couldn't be okay, right?

"Not at all," she shook her head. "You are going to get a rather intensive look at things, both in and out of the conference. Just because we are out of the office does not mean that our cases stop, you know. I am going to show you what working with me truly looks like." Dani rested a hand on her hip and gave you a bit of a smirk. "I'm sure you're used to taking it easy with Ms. Black, but let's see if you can keep up with an actual attorney."

She was insufferable. "Yea, okay." You rolled your eyes shrugged your shoulders.

Dani leaned onto her right side and looked you over, "I'll make you a deal: give me one day. If you don't want to work with me after that, then I'll leave you alone and even toss your cute little firm some money."

That seemed like it was the best you were going to get for now. "Sure. Then let's just get this over with." You hoped that would have gotten some sort of response, but she kept her usual knowing smirk.

"Great!" She clapped her hands together. "Follow me." She heel-turned and started walking. As annoying as it was, you only needed to deal with this for a day.

"So, what do I have to do?" You asked, ready for the worst. She'd already tried to seduce you. What was she going to do? **** you to fuck her or something?

"I am going to give you a look at the case I'm on and you will give me your opinion on it. Of course, you will be at a consultant capacity and I will need you to fill out a few NDAs first." You followed Dani to her suite— and it was not what you expected.

It was, honestly, kind of a mess. Her suitcases were a open and haphazardly tossed around, her clothes hanging out of them. The couch had a thin blanket on it, which wouldn't have been odd if it wasn't for what was on the bed. Folders and papers were scattered all over, seeming to have made their home there.

"Well?" She motioned over to the bed. "They're somewhere over there."

"Wait, what are? The NDAs or the case files? Did someone fucking break in or something?" You couldn't possibly believe that this was Dani's way of living. The woman she presented herself as was quite different than this.

For the first time, you actually saw her break her composure. "Listen, I have had to organize, run, and keep up with this entire conference. Then I've had to keep up with my cases; I apologize for not having the time or energy to clean up."

You wanted to groan, but you felt that you were out of groans. "I can't work like this. If you want me to do anything here, we're going to have to clean up."

"I'm not a maid," she crossed her arms and looked over at you.

"And I'm not your butler. If you want me to work with you, then the first thing you can do is help me clean up your mess!" Perhaps you wouldn't have been as intense or loud with her if she hadn't been purposefully pushing your buttons all this time.

She narrowed her gaze, but didn't say anything. Instead, she went over to the bed and started sorting through the papers. "Well, butler?"

"On my way, maid." You gritted your teeth and joined her in sorting through the mess.

How does the "work" go?
