Off To School, No! I Really Mean It This Time
Aaron's sisters along with David were waiting by the garage for him. Aaron still wasn't sure exactly what was going on but he figured it could wait until later.
"Hey, Bro why don't you ride to school with us today instead of riding the bus!," Called Kimberly.
Aaron had been riding the bus for months now and the other kids still looked at him like some sort of freakish oddity which really didn't bother him as much as annoy him. Mutants and other superhumans were virtually extinct since The Eugenic Wars (or at least that was what the public was told) but there were still a few around... Remnants of The X-Men, Psi-Corps, Avengers as well as other hero organizations and some of the more powerful and cunning villains still remained. In this scientifically advanced age, Children are tested at birth and those that show signs of Mutancy or possess a gene for superhuman abilities are quarantined sometimes indefinitely or at least until the nature of their abilities and mutation can be determined and if it presents a danger to the population then psycho-surgical techniques, special meta-supressants or sleeper **** are used to neutralize said abilities often turning the unfortunate individual into a drooling vegetable which is considered by the medical establishment to be acceptable even Humane... A word that should never leave the mouth of a human because there is seldom anything Humane about what humans do to one another and themselves.
After Aaron's peculiar skin and eye coloration manifested when he was 7 years old many thought that he had somehow evaded the genetic testing when he was born. It wouldn't have exactly been a new occurrence ... There had been those in the past who possessed genes that masked their Mutancy from detection by the tests but after exhaustive analysis and probing of his genetic structure the Doctors determined that he was not a mutant nor any form of superhuman variant. His odd skin and eye color were the result of a recessive pre-existing condition triggered by physical trauma, infection, and **** interaction during medical treatment.
Aaron thought about it for a moment then said, "SURE!"
There was still time to make it to school so Aaron wasn't in a hurry to leave and was just strolling along enjoying the invigorating breeze, the smell of fresh cut grass, and the arousing bouquet of roses growing alongside the house. It had been so long since he'd seen the roses and now there were so many. Aaron could remember planting the first roses by the house as a present to his mother and he had taken good care of them up until he became too weak to do. He had loved the look on his mother's face when he picked a trio of roses and gave them to her on her birthday. That was one of a long list of things Aaron had missed confined to his bed... The joy on his mother's face when she took the roses from his little hand, the twinkle in her green eyes when she smelled them, and the gentle tenderness she showed when she tended the cuts on his fingers from their thorns and the kiss on his forehead and thank you for the gift. Aaron had hated that the groundskeeper had to oversee the roses in his absence but they seemed healthy and plentiful.
Every day before school Aaron would take in the beautiful sights and sounds of the estate and each time he did it was like he was seeing it for the first time.
