Chapter 18

Tell her the truth?
Of course not!
“What do you mean ‘weird’” you questioned, knowing full well you were probably the cause of her unusual mood.
“Well, she was just staring at the kitchen table when I walked in. Usually, she comes out to bother me but it took me three tries to even get her attention. I dunno just she's just… off” she shrugged looking a bit worried.
You tried your best to find a plausible excuse, before settling on blaming someone else.
“Hmmm...She might just be nervous about Lucy coming back tomorrow. I know they talk on the phone a bit but the last time they saw each other face to face was when they got into that shouting match before she left for college.” you replied, trying not to show any emotion on your face. With another reason popping in your head you decided to double down on blaming Lucy. It's not like she would be taking any blame for this anyway. She might even get some sympathy knowing how much Sarah looks up to her.
“Plus you know, Lucy never really made up with Dad after she left, unlike Mom. Not that I blame Lucy or anything but I can see why Mom would be a bit nervous. I don't think Lucy or Dad have spoken to each other all year, let alone a full conversation.”
Sarah nodded along to your explanation so you seemed to have at least convinced her for now but you could tell she was still bothered by the topic.
“I suppose that makes sense” she mumbled. “I’m still not sure but your explanation is better than anything I could come up with”
She shrugged and got up off your bed and headed to the door. Before she could leave you called out to her hoping to at least cheer her up a little bit.
“Hey, I’m planning on asking Mom about allowing us to get cell phones now that we're 18. I know she was still hesitating about it when we asked last time but I’ll probably ask her at dinner tomorrow. Maybe Lucy can back us up and make it three against one instead of two but let me know if you think of any good reasons we can use cause I haven't got many new ones” you admitted.
“Sure will do” she quickly agreed. “I’ll do anything to get a phone at this point”.
“Oh really” you jokingly raised an eyebrow “Then it looks like you’ll owe me a favour then”
“Whatever, Perv” she shot back before forcefully shutting the door and stomping down the corridor.
You grinned to yourself knowing she wasn't actually angry but it did give you a bit of confidence knowing she wasn't as restless as before. Especially considering she didn't try and actually attack you like she had done previously.
In the past, when she had ‘mistakenly’ caught you spying on her in the bathroom, she had thrown and hit you with everything she had available to her at the time. Well, except for the towel she was using to cover herself, unfortunately.
With an overdressed Sarah(At least in your opinion) no longer in your room, you got back to finishing the match from before, knowing full well you wouldn't be winning this one. Considering your team had been a man down for the past 10 minutes, you didn't blame them for the bit of toxicity they were putting in the chat.
You played a few more matches before you heard Sarah shout for you downstairs for dinner. Although you weren't looking forward to this, you knew you had to face the music at some point so it was better to get it out of the way now when you could rack up some extra KDK seconds. Making sure your phone was hidden in your pocket, you briefly washed your hands and then headed downstairs to eat.
Awkward dinner
