Chapter 3 by Tyne Tees Books Tyne Tees Books

Ooh...do you think he’ll notice?

Of course he will! He’s bound to!

After what seemed like several minutes of walking, Jack found a brown wooden bench situated in front of a large fountain. He decided to have a little sit down, but when he did, his feet started tapping. All by themselves! He looked down at them, not thinking anything of it so…he just looked around at all there was to see.

There were lots of trees and bushes and grass all around him, like a symphony of nature spanning as far as the eye could see. He took a deep breath and exhaled calmly. “Nothing like a bit of fresh air to clear one’s mi-“ Just as he was about to finish his sentence, he looked down at his shoes again. His feet were STILL tapping. Jack grew more and more curious as to why they were doing this. Jack tried to **** his legs down to make them stop…but they didn’t! (Now, if one were to happen to walk past while this was going on, one would be incredibly astounded…)

“Come on brain, work with me here!” He demanded. But his brain wasn’t the one making his feet do that! It was the feet themselves! Just then (to make matters even MORE confusing), he heard some voices. It sounded like they were saying things like “Let us out!” and “We want fresh air too!”

Jack, now utterly terrified by the sudden occurrence of these two voices, stared down at his Converse. He slowly leaned forward as he undid the laces, revealing his light grey socks. “Come on! Give us some air!” One of the voices cried out. Jack was startled by the fact that both of his soles were now facing him! As if his feet were looking at him! Jack gulped nervously as he slowly peeled off the grey socks, finally giving his large feet what they wanted!

But when the socks finally came off, Jack got the biggest shock of his life! The soles of his feet were now occupied by two pairs of large round eyes (both of which were brown) and mouths! Jack’s feet had now come to life!

“What…in the name of the Independent Broadcasting Authority is happening?!” Jack cried out as he quivered in fear. His feet, of whom were named Wriggy (left foot) and Toesy (right foot), just looked at him very concerned. "You should not be alive!" He shouted. Toesy moved closer to Jack's face and spoke in a very calm voice. "There is no need to be scared..." he explained to Jack, "We only want to help you"

But Jack was having none of it! "I must awaken from this nightmare!" he cried as he was about to bang his head on the metal arm of the bench, but as he did, Wriggy swooped in and stopped him.

"Jack, listen..." He told him. "You are not dreaming, this is really happening. And you mustn't bang your head either. We don't want you to get hurt..." Upon hearing this, Jack stopped being scared. But then, a different feeling flowed through the quirky Welshman. A feeling...of curiosity. Why were his own two feet concerned for him? Usually, it was the other way around. Jack looked at his now sentient feet with sheer confusion. "So..." he began, "Umm...how exactly did you...err...". Being overwhelmed by the confusion, it was hard for Jack to think of what to say. But finally, he thought of the right question.

"How exactly did you two come to life?" he asked them. Wriggy and Toesy just stared at each other...then at Jack...then back to each other...then back at Jack again! "Umm, well..." Toesy began, "It's because...well...umm...we don't really know..." Jack pouted at them as he rested his head on his hand and his elbow on his hip. He looked to be very deep in thought. "Anyway!" Wriggy interrupted, "Didn't you invite that girl to our apartment?" he asked Jack.

Jack suddenly realised! "Oh yeah I did!" he exclaimed. "Alex said she was coming over!" Toesy then pointed his big toe at Jack with the other 4 toes curled up. "And you...forgot." he cheekily remarked before both feet started giggling. "'ey! We'll have less of that from yous!" Jack told them.

"Well then, we'd best get a shifty on!" he said as he was about to stand up. "Oh please! Allow us to do that for you!" Wriggy smiled as both feet planted themselves on the ground and Jack stood up. "Well..." Jack said as he looked down at them, "I hope you don't run too fast...you know what I'm like with my running..." Toesy (being the cocky one) raised his big toe and wafted it. "Oh pfft!" He scoffed, "Don't worry yourself, we'll go easy." Suddenly, Jack felt his right leg suddenly jolt forward as he started walking. Putting his socks and shoes in his bag, their next destination...was home.

What do you think they did as soon as they got home?
