Chapter 10 by FlightoftheBeers FlightoftheBeers

What does Dillon want?

Nothing

“She’s really happy, you know,” Dillon said, continuing rubbing your shoulders. “I haven’t seen her this happy since, well, since you worked here back in the day.” She took a breath and kept going, “she’s always loved you, you know. She was broken when you got married. She put on a great face at the wedding, but after she left, she was at my apartment, drinking, and a mess.”

“Why… why are you telling me this?” You asked, conflicted. Her words were strong and purposeful, as was her massage. It felt good, but you couldn’t help but feel nervous.

“Because I don’t want you to hurt her. She’s going to be the best thing that’s ever happened to you if you let it happen. Your high school sweetheart has nothing on her; you know this and Aubrey knows this,” she stopped and sat down next to you. “I saw the two of you the other night. She was fucking glowing, John. This isn’t some fleeting crush. I’m sure if you told her you were leaving your wife and wanted to get married to her tomorrow, she would move the case and elope with you. She’d move heaven and Earth for you, John. I want you to make up your mind and be good to her. If not, then let her know. Don’t string her along.” Dillon stood up and picked up her coffee. “I know you’re a good guy, John. Whatever decision you make, just be sure it’s the one you really want. Once you make it, there’s no going back.” She gave you a smile and left the office.

She left you with a lot to think about — on top of the case, that is.

What do you decide?
