Chapter 3
by grimtale
Is it really that easy?
Nothing is ever that easy
You were going to take that long step but somehow your foot got tangled up with your sheet and you trip and fall out of bed onto your floor. Thank you parents, for wall-to-wall carpets. You didn't really get hurt, but you got the wind knocked out of you and it takes you a few moments to realize that you are lying right in the middle of the Danger Zone!
Panic rising in your chest you struggle to get up, but your legs are still entangled in your sheet. As you try to see how to get free in the light of the full moon shining through your curtains, you happen to look into the deeper darkness under your bed. Those are definitely green glowing eyes looking back at you.
You are too surprised to discover that your childhood fears are true, that you can't even react when a long, clawed hand lashes out and grabs you by your delicate neck. It effectively prevents you from screaming, which you would really like to do right now thank you very much, since the thing attached to the arm is slowly making its way out from underneath your bed.
It has to move slowly because it seems to be much bigger than the gap between your bed and the floor would allow for. Once it has managed to escape the confines of its dark prison, it is at least eight feet tall standing on hunched legs, all covered in bristly dark fur and growling between a terrifying array of sharp teeth. It is clearly a werewolf in its man-wolf-hybrid form, and it is real! But how?
Terror causes your mind to work in overdrive, allowing you process all this information before the monster tears into action. The full moon, of course. It's obvious now. Werewolves were always your worst fear during full moons back when you still believed in monsters under your bed. What was the stupid rule you made up to make sure they couldn't get you? Oh if only you could remember...
How did you protect yourself from werewolves?
