Teysa stood. Her mind was reeling. She had felt that there was something else she had to ask, but it was fading already. Her thoughts kept going back to Agamor. She had feared that Mish'li would shun her when she knew the truth, but she had also nurtured a secret hope that the priestess would have an easy answer for her. The middle outcome left her unsettled.

"We should be returning," she said. "I don't think the city is a safe place for El'keth."

Mish'li nodded sadly. "I wish that weren't true, but... you're right. That's one downside of the Empress's absence. When she reigned, street crime almost nil. The people were more afraid of the guards than anything else. Now... I don't know. Not that I want her back! But the guards have pulled back to the Basilica and temple district, and it's a free for all out there."

"Where is the Empress, anyways?" Aliara chimed in. "Was she ever found? We didn't kill her, I promise."

A strange expression flitted across Mish'li's face. It was gone in an instant, gone so completely that Teysa wasn't sure if she'd seen it at all. "Nobody knows," she said softly. "Nobody's seen her since your return from the deeps."

"Thank you for seeing us, Mish'li," Teysa said. "I'm glad to see you thriving. Hopefully, when things are more stable, we can come for a longer visit."

"That would be lovely. And you as well, El'keth, it was a pleasure to meet you." Mish'li bowed graciously before the drider, who stared in surprise for a moment before returning the gesture. "Thank you for showing me your city, Mish'li," she said, her voice high and formal. "I hope to visit again. May there be peace between our people."

"To peace. Have a safe trip home, my friends."
