Chapter 21 by moonblack moonblack

What do you find in the tower’s ruins?

Nothing. Nothing alive, that is

You look at Xallia questioningly. "Well? Do you sense anything?"

"Nothing bigger than a small rat. There’s no one here. At least no one alive." The succubus tells you.

"I’m not sure I like that 'no one alive' part." Glenda says and you silently agree with her.

The three of you explore the area outside the tower and find nothing of interest, just grass and stones that were part of the tower’s wall once. Finally you take out the sword of St. Magdalena and head in through the main tower entrance (its wooden doors long gone), followed closely by the succubus and the elf.

The inside of the tower is just as ruined as the outside, but a lot more dusty. Every single thing you can see is covered by a think layer of dust. Your feet leave very obvious tracks on the floor.

"Judging by all the dust no one has been here in a long time." Xallia says with a frown on her face.

"At least we don’t need to worry about getting ambushed." You tell her.

"VISITORS!" A woman’s voice shouts from somewhere nearby, interrupting your exploration and almost making you jump in surprise.

You instinctively raise your sword and turn towards the source of the voice. You see what appears to be a cloud of fog floating towards you. The top of the cloud is shaped like a woman’s face – a very excited woman’s face.

“Finally! Finally! It’s been so long since I have seen a living person!" The… fog… appears really excited to see you. You almost expect her to start jumping up and down.

"Who – or what – are you?" Glenda asks, worry visible on her face.

"I’m Jenny! I used to be a guard here – when I was still alive." The 'fog' answers.

"When you were alive? So you’re some sort of ghost?" You ask her.

"I guess. I mean, I’ve never met another ghost, but what else can I be? In any case I’m happy to meet a living soul after so long."

"Nice to meet you too, Jenny. I’m Sabine." You introduce yourself. "My companions are Glenda and Xallia." You add as you point at each one.

"Nice to meet you, Glenda, Xallia… Wait, aren’t you a succubus?" Jenny asks, surprised.

"You can tell? Yes, I’m a succubus." The daemoness admits.

"Wow, a real succubus! I’ve never met one before!… Anyway, what brings you here? No one has visited this place in… decades? Centuries? I really don’t know…"

"Well… it’s a bit of a long story…" You say as you put away your sword. This 'Jenny' seems friendly so you tell her what happened, though you make sure to skip certain embarrassing details, such as the exact way you convinced Xallia to join you. When you are finished you notice that the ghost is staring at you with a thoughtful expression on her face. "What?"

"Well, I didn’t notice at first, but you look very much like me back when I was still alive, Sabine. Your hair is red and your breasts are bigger, but otherwise you are nearly identical to me. So… I was hoping you would agree to help me…" She trails off.

"Help you? How?" You ask, curious.

"Well… there is something I never got to experience when I was still alive. Something I’ve wanted to experience all this time, but couldn’t because there’s some sort of barrier around this place that forces me to stay here. So I had no way to leave, and no one to ask for help because no one would come here…" Her expression becomes sad.

"I understand. What sort of help do you need?" You ask the ghostly woman.

"Well… I was hoping you’d let me borrow your body for a short time." Jenny tells you.

"Borrow my body? I’m not sure I understand…"

"Well, I’m a ghost, so – as long as you agree to it – I should be able to possess your body and use it as my own for a short time. It will be as if I am alive again and I’ll be able to do what I couldn’t do before my ****." The ghost explains. "And after that I should be able to finally rest in peace."

"I have no experience with such things, but based on what I have heard that should work." Xallia tells you.

"So, what do you say? Will you help me, Sabine? Will you let me borrow your body for a short time? Please? Please?" Jenny’s ghost looks at you pleadingly.

You hesitate, unsure how to respond. You’re not exactly thrilled by the idea of surrendering your body to the control of a ghost you just met, even if it is just temporary. But on the other hand can you just abandon her here, all alone? She might remain imprisoned for many more years if you don’t help her…

What do you do?
