Chapter 57 by ten-tackle
Onto new Shores?
Notes: The circus needs a band
Edit: I forgot a whole lot. Edits in bold italics.
I had made a big point about how I couldn't use a lot of stuff. Than I remembered, that the attack names, which are in wide variety of languages, are shouted in universe (Usopp tricks Mr 5 into eating his tabasco star, by calling out gunpowder star). This means by trying to avoid implicit references (for example "oh god" even though there is no established religion) is just making it difficult on myself.
The shanty Buggy attempts is a loose translation of "Booty Island" by Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbQhmjXPQF4. It's about pirates planning their holiday and full of popculture references.
Ouglas D Blake is a whole-character Reference to Captain Blake from Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen. As you may have picked up, he's essentially Chuck Norris as a pirate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVCqKVopY10 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvXFxE5RD0c are two songs just about him. Exploits, I won't use in the story: He stole the ocean from Poseidon. Poseidon has still not gotten it back. Jack Sparrow wishes he was Captain Blake. The people of Rhodos built a lifesized statue of him. Captain Blake built Rome in a single day. Captain Blake founded and sank Atlantis.
“The rat-catcher of Havlum" is my fantasy version of "the ratcatcher of Hameln". In the original story the city of Hameln promised a ratcatcher a fortune if he could rid the city of the rats. He lured the rats into the river drowning them, but was rejected when asking for the promised reward. In **** he abducts the children. For some reason younger versions make him much more villainous: The city is poor and offers a small reward, he demands more than he was promised, they give him what they have, he drowns the children, instead of abducting them. The implication in my story is, that the version that Morgan told and the characters are familiar with is even more biased against the rat-catcher.
The first song Morgan sings is Spinning wheel by Blood, Sweat & Tears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFEewD4EVwU. A song that (if taken literally) is about a carousell.
The "Lesson" is "How to make a grind" by the Excrementory Grindfuckers, whose greatest hits are playing schlager the way a mincraft-character would. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95gFMyLxCsc&t=6s
Morgan Hurley-Bannok is heavily inspired by "Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen" (the name is mashing the stage-names of the male members together) a German Folk-band. No points if you can guess, what he'll call himself, when he wakes up as she. I'll be using a lot of their songs in future chapters. Don't worry: They endorse piracy.
When I came up with Morgan I used some leftover protagonist scraps and glued them together with a good helping of Mary Sue. I plan on making it a running gag, that "Morgan" has all the making of a shonen protagonist (meaningfull backstory, great destiny in the future, strong and concrete agency), but instead the protagonist is Tsuki and "Morgan" will always just accept that.
Yes, I am fully aware how likely this is to result in bad writing, and I know I'm not good enough to guarantee it won't, now would you please light my cigarette, while I shower in rum to wash of all that gunpowder?
Regarding the "fightscene": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gjSTEVbF4o When you're attacked and the DOOM-music kicks in.

Don't mind the fucking, nothing to see here
Once upon a time, on a bet and while very very drunk, a higher power of some kind made a very special item.
