Chapter 5 by TheRandomSN
How much luck do they have?
Not much.
Stumbling into the unfamiliar room the girls saw a large oak conference table cluttered with paper and writing utensils. A slight odor of uneaten and discarded lunch emanated from several small trash cans sitting around the room. To the left they saw the staff refrigerator, preceded by a long counter complete with microwave and sink. Two smaller tables stood next to the wall to their right, each with three chairs surrounding them. A coat rack stood in the far left corner, holding one large black wool coat.
Cassie immediately walked to the coat and picked it up, looking it over. Sara and Christina spread out across the room checking the back of each chair for any other jackets that may have been draped on them. It didn’t take long for them to realize that the black coat was the only thing they could cover themselves with.
They turned to look at Cassie who was already wearing the coat, fastening the buttons down the front.
“Wait,” Christina said, “we need a plan, who gets the coat and gets help for the other two?”
“I get the coat”, Cassie said without question, “this goes down to my knees, it’ll cover everything.”
“Okay, so are you run to your house and come back with something or us?”
Cassie looked up and bluntly said “no. It must be one of your friends who put me in this situation, none of mine would do this. My friends wouldn’t even think of this as a fun prank, much less not realize when this had gone far enough. You can figure out your own problems.”
“None of our friends did this!” Sara protested. “You and I both know there are some girls in gym class that don’t particularly like any of us. One of them must have done this.”
“They probably did this to you and I got caught up in it somehow. It doesn’t even matter, I’m tired of running around naked, I’ve got something that will get me home, you two have to figure your own shit out.”
Cassie started striding for the door and Sara tried to lunge for her. Cassie dashed out of her path and yanked the door open, scuttling into the hallway and jogging away. For a second Sara appeared to debate going after her but stopped dead in her tracks and re-closed the door.
“You could have helped stop her,” she said.
“I didn’t even think about it,” Christina said. “I guess I was a little too shocked that she would do this.”
Sara held up her hand as if she was about to make an angry point, but took a deep breath. “Okay, we can’t start sniping at each other over this now. There still has to be some way out of this.”
Christina slid one of the chairs away from the conference table and sat down. She stared at the table, aimlessly flicking a pen with her middle finger. She was still in disbelief that Cassie had abandoned them like this. “Do you have any friends who might be in one of the clubs or sports after school?”
“No, not today. I think Ellie has softball but that’s on Mondays.”
They both fell back into silence, thinking things through.
Another possible solution?
