Chapter 4 by mahblahblah33 mahblahblah33

Study Dates (Alt POV)

Not mine though

NOTE: I did a stupid thing and deleted all my passwords.

I beat a hasty retreat from chess club, trying to get home before it got dark. No, ghosts didn’t come out at dark, only the thugs and bullies. I had caught an ass-whopping a few times when I was younger, but one group haunted me still. I had stuck up for my best friend Ben sophomore year. Since then every time that group found me alone, they would drag me to the alley, the park, the abandoned house, etc. and beat my ass again. It was both the most stupid and the bravest thing I had ever done. Ben didn’t deserve to be beat; he was a nice kid. As a short kid without many friends, it wasn’t hard for that group to lay the smackdown on me. They had been getting smarter too, leaving the beatings to my torso and only hard enough to bruise, not to break. The second hospital trip for a broken arm had scared them a bit. It made me paranoid, and I did contemplate calling the cops, but in my neighborhood, snitches don’t get stitches, they get dead.

I was sad when Ben moved out of the neighborhood after sophomore year, but also glad for him, glad he could escape. Glad he was still my friend.

As I ran out of the school building, I passed Emma running in, her hair blowing as she ran. Her beautiful leg muscles contracting and relaxing as she bounced, err, ran passed me. Her clothes were ruffled, much like my mother’s were after a date. She had her phone in hand, a serious expression on her face. She didn’t even glance in my direction. I wasn’t even worth a glance, I felt like shit.

I only then noticed I had stopped running and was watching her, she took a turn which meant she was heading to the library, to him, to my good friend Isaac.

It had been about two weeks. Who am I kidding, I was counting the hours since I had seen them in the cafeteria. I had seen them meeting three times, though I sometimes was in such a rush I didn’t have time to check the library. They never noticed me looking in through the library door. They either had their heads in their books, or were deep in conversation.

I had heard bits and pieces and it all seemed about school and schoolwork, but the rushed appearance just now set my brain aflame with jealousy. I dismissed it quickly and began my run back home. That pause cost me another beating.

I need a new route home.

Saturday is here. Finally, I can relax with my friends and escape the sexcapade going on in my house from Thursday to Sunday. One of the bullies from the group just started fucking my sister last night. He was a loser who had graduated a year ago but went to the local community college and found it fun to beat on high school kids. As he was leaving, he said he would speak to them about cooling it a bit when he saw my bruised chest in the morning as he walked passed my bedroom curtain as I was changing.

Small wins, I guess.
