Descending a Staircase
Not fixed, but better.
Titania and Robin exited her room and descended the staircase as Viola took note of their presence. Neither one was smiling, but there was an absence of the tension that had entered the house with Titania. The teen, for her part, immediately walked to the kitchen and began serving herself a double helping of the meal.
"Her school's got a bunch of idiots," Robin explained, returning to his seat at the table.
"Mumble...that right...mumble..." Viola heard from the kitchen as Titania spun the spatula one handed before laying atop the baking dish again.
"Kiddo, you know my hearing's awful," Robin leaned back in the seat one handed and cupped his hand over his ear.
"I said you GOT THAT RIGHT..." Titania nearly shouted. Much louder than necessary, and in a tone of voice that left nothing to the imagination as to her annoyance.
Robin took a quick inhalation and counted to three. Oh great, she was back to this again. It was the same tactic that she kept getting annoyed at her classmates for. Couldn't blame her for doing it, but bringing it home was his major issue. This passive aggressive garbage was what he had JUST talked to her about.
"Thanks," Robin replied, trying not to respond to the behavior, "So, yeah, the food's good, no reason to hide in your room tonight, unless you just need some space. You can totally play thrash metal on your Cello if you want."
"Oh, you play Cello?" Viola chimed in, immediately taking the hint.
"So do I, actually," Miranda chimed in. Viola noted a small motion of Robin's head, as his hand came to his collar. His hand brushed against his throat in a quick slashing motion, and Miranda nodded in response. "Titania's got this absolute idiot for a music teacher though."
"I swear if I have to do another folk song from Zimbabwe about girls flirting with men and twirling their skirts, I'm going to puke." Titania snarled, settling into the chair with an angry expression. "And the fucking morons who won't stop talking about who's getting with who, and asking me to friend them on facebook just so they can... aaaargh, I don't even USE facebook!"
"Shall we just have a big vent?" Robin sighed, raising his arms in a shrug.
"NOW WE ALL HAVE TO BITCH AT EACH OTHER!" Miranda shouted, with Titania joining in on the last part of it.
"I should never have bought you that DLC," Robin grinned. "It's another reference and will take far too long to explain."
Viola chuckled at the shared family moment. It seemed goofy, and something that she actually wanted to hear sometime, but apparently now was not that moment.
"Okay, I could come up with something," Viola laughed along noting that the cheer had seemed to return. "Does it have to be about YOU, or can it be about anything in general?"
"Helps if it's something you need to get off your chest around the house," Miranda piped up, and it was answered with Titania's nod around a mouthful of food. "Like Dad not putting his SHOES away." She pointed to where Robin's sandal lay in the middle of the Kitchen floor.
"Busted again," Robin nodded. "Lauren at least has a shoe rack at her place."
Viola could feel the tension in the house lighten with the mention of Lauren's name. Titania in particular seemed extremely happy at the comment. Hmm, things to bitch about. Well she could always complain that the window upstairs banged her knees when she climbed through it... oh wait... thinking of that, no reason that she had to make the evening end, after all.
"I don't have anything to complain about really," Viola smiled, enjoying the moment. Ok, so Titania wasn't talking to her dad about something. She could see it in Titania's face with the way she avoided eye contact and seemed eager to change the subject. Could Robin see it? Did he know? She searched his face for some recognition of the situation, but he seemed just as eager to pretend that nothing was wrong. Oh dear, there is some family drama here, she realized. But what to complain about to keep in the spirit of this... funny, not too mean, but something that she wanted to talk about.
