Nope, just a regular school day

The last bell finally rang and your classes were finished for the day. You headed out the classroom in search of Emma with a mix of anxiety and excitement. You knew you had no reason to be worried about your afternoon plans but the negative thoughts still popped up. You finally found her waiting outside among the sea of students rushing to be the first one to leave. The smile she gave you as you approached, made you forget all the anxieties and worries you had been harbouring the past few hours.

You both wordlessly fell in line with the rest of the crowd and left the school grounds towards the more peaceful suburbs that you took your usual route through.

“It feels weird that we won't be walking this way in a couple of months” you pondered, feeling a bit melancholic.

“Oh god, don't start getting all sappy on me now” Emma replied jabbing you in the ribs with her elbow. “If your gonna get all nostalgic at least go back more than couple years”

You always felt that Emma knew exactly what to say to cheer you up. Even on occasions like this where she knew you would end up making jokes at her expense. It wasn't like you were gonna turn down a chance to tease her either.

“Hmm… let's see if I can think back on anything good then. What about the time you tried to run away from home and just ended up hiding under my bed for an hour or what about when…”

“Alright! Alright! You proved your point. You can be as sappy as you wanna be, just trying to embarrass me.” she pleaded trying to get you to stop.

Conversation flowed and you spent the majority of your walk switching from topic to topic but it was mainly joking back and forth. Emma did ask more about your college meeting but you skirted around the topic and attempted to be vague about it. You promised to tell her more once you had more of the basics figured out and that seemed to placate her for now. You were technically telling the truth about your ‘Project’ but Emma was the one you hated lying to the most. Between all the embarrassing stories you had between you, there really wasn’t much reason to hide anything.

As you got closer to home you realised that nothing had really changed with the way you acted with Emma. The conversation felt more like two best friends joking around and not the boyfriend/girlfriend atmosphere that you had hoped. Sure both of you were having fun but the same could be said for the past 4 years and you had hardly made any progress romantically. If you were gonna try and set the mood for your study date you felt that you had to act before you got inside the house. In a bit of a panic, you did the first thing that came to mind and reached out to hold her hand.

Emma turned her head towards you and a coy smile raised the corners of her lips.

“Took you long enough. I nearly gave up with the amount of hints I was dropping” she said teasingly. You had no idea what hints she was talking about and felt pretty stupid that you nearly missed your chance.

“Well, try harder next time. I’m new to this sorta stuff so a little help would be appreciated” you joked. You had made it to your front yard by the time you had taken her hand. You felt great walking up the path to the front door hand in hand until a faint electric shock ran up the arm that was connected to Emma. With the blissful atmosphere that you were experiencing, you had completely forgotten about the KDK’s existence. You continued to hold her hand until you got to the front door and used the chance to separate while you searched for your keys. Trying to push your nervous thoughts to the back of your mind, you invited Emma inside and up to the second floor while looking for an excuse to check your phone.

“You okay waiting in my room for a minute, while I go get us some drinks?” you asked.

“I’m not really that thirsty at the moment” she replied.

“Anything to eat then?”

“No I’m good. Why do you look so nervous all of a sudden?” Emma questioned, noticing your change in atmosphere.

“Well I really need to use the bathroom but I didn't wanna admit that.” you said answering her.

“Ah well, don't let me stop you. I’ve been here enough times to know where your room is so I’ll wait in there” she replied jokingly.

You watched Emma turn down the corridor towards your room before quickly rushing to the bathroom. You locked the door behind you and sat down on the edge of the bath before fishing the phone out of your pocket. With the phone now in hand, you loaded up the KDK and were faced with a new pile of notifications.

You knew this was coming but actually seeing it for yourself made the nervousness you had been feeling reach new heights. The shop had also been one of the options that you had theorized would show up for level 4 but you ignored that and its relevant explanation and skipped straight to Emma’s page.

At first, you were happy to see Emma listed as your girlfriend but your mood quickly soured. Sadist!! No no no… How are you supposed to deal with that! You nearly levelled her up as well without even realising it. If Emma’s a sadist then that doesn't look good for you in the future and it's only gonna get worse the more you stay in contact with her. Congratulations! You have reached level 4 which unlocks the final page of the KDK interface. The shop! All those accumulated points that you have been gathering during your registrations and level ups, can now be used to buy a variety of items that I hope will be useful to you or your subjects. To list off a few: User upgrades, Subject upgrades, one time effects and most importantly KDK upgrades. All of these are available to purchase should you have the necessary points to spend. One additional feature of the shop is a weekly sale.

One item every week(resetting every Monday) will be highlighted and be put on sale with an additional discount. We hope that you strongly consider these items as they have been selected based on your status, subjects and achievements to hopefully provide you with the best experience possible. As said we recommend you consider the item but there is always a chance that you do not find it helpful to your situation so any purchase is always up to your discretion.

Now that I have explained the shop feature, I will now explain the level up process going forward. You can still level up past 4 but no new pages can be unlocked. There are still a variety of rewards up for grabs but you have now unlocked what I would call the ‘base’ package that the KDK has to offer. I will be keeping these rewards to myself for the moment just to give you some additional surprises but I believe you will be happy with what your future holds if you continue with the KDK.

At least that's something. There's still more the KDK can offer me even after this setback. You decided to check out the shop as the information suggested. You went back to the main menu and selected the glowing shop icon.

You were first greeted with what looked like a normal web store filled with various items for you to do with as you wish. A counter at the top showed you that you had 74 points to spend but you weren't really in the mood to browse at the moment. Just as you were about to close out of the app and face the music, a pop up appeared telling you that the weekly item was now available. On a whim, you clicked it just to see what it was offering and your eyes widened at what it showed.

The shop information really wasn't kidding when they said the weekly item should be ‘strongly considered’. It was the solution to your current problem but you felt that actually using it was something else entirely. Were you really prepared to change a core part of Emma’s thoughts? Amplifying them with the KDK was already pretty bad on its own so it felt even worse to consider changing the girl you loved into something else completely.
