Chapter 2
by DubiousSintax
Mark meets...
Nobody... yet
As Mark pushed on the door it opened, creaking slightly as it swung wide. He peered in, the apartment dark and silent. He immediately realised his mistake, this was certainly not his home however the fact it was open and empty piqued his curiosity. Something wasn't right here.
He made his way inside, the moonlight bright enough to illuminate his way into the living area which was bare - there was no furniture or decoration to speak of. He moved on towards the bedrooms which were similarly bare yet somehow strange. The air was cool and almost clammy, as if he were outside. As he pushed on further part of him realised that the apartment should not be this big. He had walked well beyond the boundaries of his own bedroom and yet on and on the room went.
The room, he suddenly realised was not so much a room any more, the carpet beneath his feet gone, replaced by gravel and dirt. The roof too had disappeared, a cavernous ceiling above and he realised he was in some kind of cave. He turned around to see that all semblance of a building was gone, he was in some sort of underground labyrinth with no obvious way out. Thankfully there was a low, glowing light that allowed him to at least see a little, but otherwise he was at a loss as to where to go or what to do. Despite his drunkeness and quite clearly being alone, Mark felt a very strong intuition that there were dangers nearby and that he should tread very carefully. As he turned a bend in the cave he heard a noise ahead and stopped in his tracks.
What does Mark encounter in the strange cavern?
